Modified C8 Z06 sound

A stock C8 Z06 already sounds incredible. But this modified car not only sounds better, but it also makes even more power.

Ear candy. That is what this is, plain and simple. My vocabulary is not robust enough to be able to adequately describe in words just how incredible this modified C8 Z06 sounds. You just have to watch the video below to get the full effect. And even then, it probably doesn’t sound as good as it does in person. This C8 Z06 acted as a prototype test bed for the folks at Fabspeed to work on an exhaust suite that would offer more sound and more power. And from what we can see and hear, the test is a rousing success.

This C8 Z06 is from the popular Street Speed 717 YouTube channel. Mike Hyssong is the man behind the channel and the owner of this lovely Accelerate Yellow Z06. And if you are at all familiar with Hyssong, you know that no matter what incredible car he has, he can never leave well enough alone. He is always pushing to make it faster and louder. That is what drove him to contact the team at Fabspeed. They are a well-known performance shop that for years focused on Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini, and McLaren. But with the introduction of the C8 Corvette, Fabspeed jumped in with both feet to develop performance upgrades for what is now an American supercar. The early results are encouraging to say the least.

The Setup

With this being a prototype Fabspeed has not yet released all the details of this setup. If you want to stay up to date with the development of C8 Z06 products from Fabspeed just click HERE. But what we do know is this. The factory cats have been replaced with what is likely a set of HJS 200-cell cats. These are high-quality, German-engineered cats that flow almost as freely as a true straight pipe application. I have personally had a couple sets of these on my cars and have always been pleased. From there the exhaust flows straight to a set of quad exhaust tips with a carbon fiber outer tip. Visually these tips are a significant improvement over stock.

The Result

Before we even get to the incredible sound, we need to discuss the power. The LT6 is already the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 ever created. So, it is not exactly hurting for power. But more is always better, right? Dyno results show that this setup gained a max of about 26 horsepower over stock. Not bad for an engine that is already pretty well optimized from the factory. Will most drivers be able to feel this extra power? Probably not. But you sure as hell can feel the sound. There is no bad-sounding C8 Z06, but this car now has that extra high-pitch, ripping sound to it that really sets it apart.

Test Drive

Revs

Break-in period? What break-in period? This Z06 has less than 1,000 miles on it but Hyssong simply can’t resist doing donuts in the parking lot and ripping up to redline on the drive home. And can you really blame him? The temptation is just too great. This C8 Z06 is now elevated from supercar to flat out racecar. It really sounds that good. Don’t believe us? Watch the video below and judge for yourself. Then watch it again. And again. We can’t wait to see more of this incredible C8 Z06.
