Twin-Turbo, Big-Block C2 Corvette Crushes Quick 30

You Won’t Believe the Long-Distance Road-Worthiness of This 1140-HP C2 Convertible

Some Corvette Forum members might already be familiar with this C2 convertible, but any time a car like this runs 9s, it rekindles our love.

What we particularly love about this car is that it’s meant to be a best-of-both-worlds ride. It is used on long-haul road trips, as evidenced by the 5-speed manual gearbox, and final drive of 3.07:1. Highway driving is also a breeze with the exhaust system setup, which is fairly muted and makes things a bit easier to live with.

Performance-wise, it has a 555-cubic-inch big block with two turbos uniquely stuffed behind the gills. In keeping with the car’s road-worthiness, it runs on pump gas. Octane ratings of 93 will give you 1,140 horsepower while running on a very modest 15 psi of boost. Water meth injection takes the place of an intercooler.

A couple of passes during the Viper Nationals show that even with all of the street-oriented parts, this C2 convertible can still handle track duty just fine. It might be a bit of a handful on some launches, but at the Quick 30 it put on a show with a quick pass of a 9.273 at 153 miles per hour. Not too shabby for a car meant for the street.
