Supercharged C7 Corvette Z06 vs Tesla Model S Plaid

Turns out, the mighty Model S Plaid isn’t quite quick enough to take down this supercharged C7 Corvette Z06 daily driver.

Since its launch, the Tesla Model S Plaid has garnered quite a bit of attention from both ICE and EV aficionados, and for good reason – it’s incredibly quick. Results can and do vary, of course, but the Plaid serves up some pretty wild numbers straight from the factory – 1,020 horsepower, a 200 mph top speed (with the right tires), a sub-2.0 second 0-60 time, and a 9-second quarter-mile. As many have found out the hard way, the all-wheel drive sedan is a rocket ship in a straight line, but this modified and supercharged C7 Corvette Z06 owned by a fellow named Brandon is not exactly what one might call a slouch, either.

All of this spectacular action was caught on tape by the YouTube channel Drag Racing and Car Stuff, which gives us a bit of a closer look at Brandon’s supercharged C7 Corvette Z06 prior to the epic showdown. It’s still packing its original 6.2-liter V8, but it’s been modified with the addition of a Magnuson 2650 supercharger, ported heads, and a larger throttle body. The result is a car that runs low nine-second quarter-mile passes with ease, making it a suitable foe for the Model S Plaid.

The Corvette starts out by ripping off a 9.2-second pass at 150 mph right off the bat, which is pretty much right in line with what the Tesla driver manages to squeeze out of his EV. When the two line up for the first time, Brandon cuts a better light and out 60-foots him, but the two cars are literally neck and neck the whole way down the track. When both cross the finish line, the Z06 takes home the win with a 9.06-second rip versus the Tesla’s 9.27-second pass, but both trap at 150 mph, amazingly enough.

What’s particularly funny about the aftermath of this race is the Tesla owner comes away shocked, finding it hard to believe that a daily driver ICE vehicle rolled right up to the track and took him down – a first, at least according to him. But for those of us that still believe in ICE, it isn’t a surprising result whatsoever.
