C2 Corvette Factory-Installed 427 Hoods on Small Block Cars: Fact or Fiction?

C2 Corvette

So essentially, there’s no substantial proof that this mysterious C2 Corvette option exists, even today. But Frankie the Fink does a nice job of summing up our discoveries so far.

“1. Kayser doesn’t reference any specific document to support this story. However, it does seem odd that no first-owner photos or original factory paperwork exist.

2. Noland examined Roy’s car and said it was legit and later included in a book is interesting but inconclusive IMO without more corroborating evidence.

3. Yes, it’s likely if you ‘knew a guy’ at the plant you could get some offbeat things done to your car. It happened at the Ford truck plant in Norfolk a few times in the ’70s (I know a guy). An under-the-table, one-off, anomaly doesn’t make a factory run of a particular mod.

So, I’ll (personally) file this under another unsubstantiated Corvette myth. And yes, its telling that other than Roy’s encounter with Noland, there are apparently no other documented occurrences of this by original owners. The simple fact is, we will never know for sure.”

One thing’s for sure, this C2 Corvette hood controversy just keeps getting more and more inflamed. And since no concrete proof exists to prove or disprove this rumor, it’ll probably never end. But we still want to know what you think! Head over here and let us know if you believe in aliens, we mean, um factory big block hood-equipped, small block C2 Corvettes. Or if you just think it’s all an elaborate work of fiction!
