Why the “Chrome vs. Black Wheels” Debate Causes Such a Fuss

You’d think by now we could leave the “chrome vs. black” wheel debate alone.

One of the best ways to illicit a response to your post on Corvette Forum is to mention either chrome or black wheels. Without fail, at least one million replies will follow your opinion. We are understandably divided. For many, though, it depends on the color and the type of Corvette. But for complete fairness, it comes down to the owner of the car.

Chrome in most instances is heavy, and honestly, if the car weighed 1,400 pounds, the discussion about rim weight would carry more… weight. But the fact is: chromed versions of modern rims don’t weigh much more than their older counterparts. So in terms of performance, there’s no case against chromed rims here. In fact, we’ve concluded it comes down to personal taste.

We don’t prefer one style over another because the style of the rim is the deciding factor if it looks good in black or chrome. From what you can see in the picture above, chrome suits that purple C7 quite nicely. But perhaps it might not look so great on another color. We’ve seen plenty of C7s on black rims that look stellar.

Either way, we’ll publish this completely neutral standpoint, and expect a firestorm of comments.
