Why You Should Buy A Used Corvette Z06 Instead of A New One

By -

Turns out, there are more reasons to go used over new when buying a Corvette Z06 than just cash savings.

For most folks, the feeling of buying a brand new car is quite sublime. Especially when you’re talking about a performance car. Buying something like a new Corvette Z06 comes with the peace of mind that you’re getting a car that hasn’t been abused by some knucklehead. But you obviously pay a significant price for that peace of mind, too. And that’s just one of the reasons why YouTuber Brink of Speed thinks that buying a used Z06 is the smarter move.

Depreciation is something to consider with any used car, and the Corvette Z06 is no exception. “The first Z06 I bought was exactly two years old,” our host notes. “And the price tag on that car brand new was $58,000. I paid $37,000 for it. In two years, it dropped $21,000. You can pretty much expect to lose $10k a year in depreciation on these things.” Thus, let somebody else eat that loss!

Our host’s third reason for buying a used Corvette Z06 is the fact that it’s already broken in. “For me, that’s actually kind of important,” he says. “You really need to put 1,000 to 1,500 miles on the car before you can really get after it.” Plus, if there were going to be any problems with the car early on, the previous owner would have had to address them. And our host admits that searching for the right used car is kind of fun, too.

Plus, you’ll find during that search that most used Z06s out there have very low miles. “It’s going to look, feel, and run just like a brand new Corvette,” our host points out. Which kind of makes spending the extra tens of thousands pretty pointless. Most Z06s are “someone’s garage queen,” well-preserved and rarely driven. And that means that there’s probably plenty of warranty left, rounding out this strong argument for a used Z06.

Hard to argue with that logic. And it might just be enough to get us to forgo that brand new car smell!
