Report: 2023 Corvette Z06 Production Will Only Be 10 Percent of Total C8 Run

We always knew that 2023 Corvette Z06 production was limited, but it’s apparently going to be VERY limited.

The 2023 Corvette Z06 – a much-hyped vehicle over the past several months – is proving to be a headache for prospective owners already, which isn’t really a surprise given the way the overall market has gone for two-plus-years. We always knew that GM wasn’t going to be able to build enough Z06s to satisfy demand in one model year, but recent news that the automaker was doling out just 315 initial units of allocation for the track-focused Corvette still came as a bit of a sting. Now, a screenshot from GM’s system has been posted over at Mid-Engine Corvette Forum showing us that total 2023 Corvette Z06 production will represent just 10 percent of the entire model year run.

This chart shows constraints for the entire 2023 model year, as well as each model’s percentage of national allocation quantity. In terms of 2023 Corvette Z06 production, that figure is limited by a “plant restriction,” according to the chart – not anything due to the chip shortage or supply constraints, it seems, which is certainly an interesting development.

Regardless, this leaves one big question – how many C8s, and in turn, C8 Z06s, will the automaker be able to build in 2023? With just around 300 allocated in the month of August, that could seemingly mean 3,000 or so over the course of the year, but that’s only if GM was able to build 30,000 total units – a figure it hasn’t reached yet.

Aside from that, there’s other disappointing news present in this graph as well – namely, the fact that only three percent of the total 2023 Z06s built will come equipped with the optional aero goodies. We already knew that aero cars were going to be limited, but this is a shockingly low percentage no matter how we slice it. Aside from the Z06, the remainder of 2023 Corvette production breaks down into 60 percent Stingrays equipped with the Z51 package, 40 percent without, and 60 percent touting Magnetic Ride Control. These constraints are attributed to supplier and chip issues, however.

At this point, one thing is clear – the 2023 Corvette Z06 won’t be a common sight on our roads for a while, but that isn’t a huge surprise. After all, in a world full of production constraints, we wouldn’t expect anything less from one of the hottest new automotive models in years.
