Design Philosophy Differences Between C6 and C7
Full discussion is here.
grcor asked:
The C6 had a metal frame for the base and convertible cars and a light aluminum frame for the high performance versions (Z06, ZR1). Rule #1 for all great sports cars is that they be light and nimble and the C6 Z06 is a great example of this. Also, there were no complaints from anyone that the frames on the C6 were not strong enough or were too flexible. On the C7 you made a stiffer aluminum cast and hydro form frame for all corvette models. Why, so everyone can take the roof off and the convertible can use the same frame. But the C7 frame is heavier than the C6 aluminum frame and so the C7 Z06 and C7R are burdened with extra weight. Cylinder deactivation is the wrong technology for the C7 Z06 because of all the extra weight. Power adjustable seats with electric heaters in the Z06? Who would take a Z06 out on a freezing day with those track tires on it? Clearly everyone forgot Rule #1 on the C7.

PDR Video Quality
Full discussion is here.
ChrisN123 asked:
Why do all the PDR videos published to date have a distinct green cast and overall washed-out look? The camera hardware/firmware must allow for better calibration of color balance and white balance. How about a firmware update to fix the problem?

What Does an Extra $100M Get You?
Full discussion is here.
Bwright asked:
Bob Lutz said recently that for development of the C7 the team asked for $900mm but instead was only given $250mm. Given how good the C7 is I am curious, how might the car have been different if the team had been given say an extra $100mm? Just trying to get a better sense of how much $100mm buys on a program like the Corvette today.
Thanks in advance.

Hybrid Drivetrains and the Corvette's Future
Full discussion is here.
kilpatds asked:
Looking forward, do you expect that increasing CAFE rules will require you to take advantage of the plug-in-hybrid loophole[1] to increase your EPA rating? If so, how would this affect the design of the resulting car?
[1] As I understand it, as a plug-in hybrid you get to do some of the travel in the EPA tests off the pre-charged battery. Which basically means you get to mix a certain amount of 70-100mpge range into the tests, which obviously can bump up your mpg rating.
There's also the technique of using electric torque-fill to hide the turbo-lag of a frigging huge turbocharger. Or I guess there are other equivalent tricks you could use to get huge output of a physically small (to make space for the electric battery/engine) motor while retaining throttle response.

Hot Lap of Leguna by Mero
Full discussion is here.
skank asked:
Is there any possibility of having Jim Mero or Tommy Milner setting a hot lap for a definitive time at Laguna Seca? It seems Laguna and VIR are the two critical tracks in the U.S. that are played out in the media. Having a fast lap here would be great for Team Corvette.
