Default DIC code40 BCM B-2723 C Pass Key Detectr Crct

2004 C5 Great condition 38K miles looks/runs great!
How do I remove Ignition Lock Cylinder. Once removed I can decide what needs to be done. Have followed several threads/forums. Some info but nothing specific about removal.
Symptoms: No previous. Key would not go into cylinder all the way. Possible small metal particle detected visually. Could be spring or tumbler. When key finally inserted and turned everything worked but no engine turn-over.
History: Bought two yrs ago from widow of 2d owner. She knew zero. Sketchy maint records. Noticed both keys color dyed on one side. Possibly reminder to face key certain direction before inserting: possible previous key/cylinder interface issues. My suspicion is tumbler/spring failure. Plan to replace both keys, key cylinder, springs and tumblers.

To get it out the knee bolter, and radio bezel needs to be removed. 2 bolts hold it in, 10 mm I believe, and 3 plugs get disconnected. There's a tab that gets pushed in to pull the cylinder out. The key has to be able to turn to remove it or drilling will be required. There's a pic in a old thread showing the correct tab, there's 2 that can be pushed, it's in the black plastic part. If that helps.

With you being able to see a piece of metal, it may be one of the prongs the vats chip slides on. That could be the cause for the key to turn with out cranking and the code.
