I've not done a lot of homework yet. There are several threads on cracked wheels with links. From what I'm seeing the forged wheels start around $3500.

Thanks for your reply. I'm just trying to figure out whether it would be wise for me to either buy wheel & tire insurance or plan to purchase a new set of forged wheels if my OEM wheel ever cracks. Seems this problem is a big problem and I am just trying to mitigate any potential risks. I am leaning toward buying a new set of aftermarket wheels should my OEM wheels ever fail.

No, I would think they will be happy to take your money any time. I bought 'tire only" insurance from Discount Tire for my GS and my wife's new BMW SUV that has low profile 315 section width run flats about a week after I bought both cars. In that case they just wrote the tire numbers on the certificate. They didn't care that they didn't sell me tires- it's insurance.

I assume if you drive in and the wheels aren't bent and tires are fine they will sell you their insurance. I can see the often typical sales pitch however like, "If you buy now we'll discount to $1200 and after it's $1500" or some such words. I bought my GS out of state and was in the Chevy, BMW, Mecedes dealer getting the wife's older BMW free service and asked the finance manager who handles all sales and "sells" insurance. He quoted $1400. I didn't bother and not sure what the price range is.

One way to address the the question of how common the bent wheel issue is is to file a complaint with the NHTSA. They take complaints about wheels and I just filed a complaint. Here is the link:

When your 3 wheels bent, did GM replace these or you had to purchase new ones out of your pocket? TIA

Are you considering purchasing after-market wheels? Trying to understanding if GS/Z06 wheels are breaking or bending why would anyone continue to keep purchasing the same wheels if you know there's a good chance this problem will continue. To me after-market seems the way to go instead of purchasing wheel insurance.

I dont know enough about aftermarket wheels or forged wheels. I do know they are at least 1000k a wheel or more and not sure if everyday road hazards will bend them as well. I do love the look of my black Grand Sport wheels

Yeah, GM makes some real nice looking wheels. I just think if you take the money that you will pay for new replacement wheels now and in the future as well as factor in the cost on any insurance costs I am thinking that there probably will not be that much difference in total cost of ownership. To me it just sounds crazy to keep purchasing wheels if they will likely continue to break or bend. It might be worth your while to investigate the after-market wheel market. Just my 2 cents. Good luck with you vehicle.

A good set of forged (not bullshit rotary forged) should be more than strong enough for every day driving.

$3600 for sugnature wheels
Sell OEM wheels for $1000.

Well worth the $2600 IMO. Plus they're lighter, look better and have more aggressive offsets.

Yes, better to,get real forged wheels and be done with it. And as a bonus your Vette will be unique looking too.

Default Cheap GS rims from Factory

I have a 2017 GrandSport Corvette, 10K miles. Purchased 10/20/17. I have bent a total of 6 rims. First 2 rims were bent in May. All 4 rims were bent in June.
My insurance replaced the first 2 bent rims with new ones. I hit a small pothole on the highway. I was shock that the rims bent so easy. The next month I bent all 4 rims, paid $700 to get the 4 bent rims straighten, trying to save money. The 4 rims later kept re-bending so I lost my money. I ended up just purchasing forged rims from Cray. I have owned 3 corvettes; I have never bent rims until I purchased this car. Corvette should be
ashamed of themselves putting cheap rims on a car that cost this much money. All the C7 (GS, Z06) owners should get together to file a case action suit against them. That is the only way to get someone to listen.

Its really a shame so many are having trouble with the Grand Sport wheels. I noticed how thin the spokes were when they came out compared to the Z06 wheels. I have well over 20000 miles on my Z06 on real roads with plenty of pot holes and no bent rims yet. ( I will now that I posted this....) Really do believe these GS wheels are an inferior design that if sufficient folks posted NHTSA complaints, GM would be forced to replace all of them.

What's weird is these Cup wheels were used on prior models of C6 Vette, right? Was there bending issues then? If not, what changed? Who was producing them, or a different method?

There was a 17 Grand sport that just went through long-term testing and they had bent all wheels multiple times. The fact that GM denies the data is a $ matter, plain and simple. Also, to be fair, its a Michigan based magazine, and our roads are where NASA tests its lunar rovers.

If you think GM is ever going to purchase every GS and Z06 owner a new set of forged wheels, you are on crack. Never going to happen. They will deny the problem unless forced by NHTSA to do something about it and they are betting that is not likely.

Since the leaking fuel pumps on C6's only resulted in a service bulletin, not a recall, I can't imagine a recall over cracked wheels. Here they have the "pothole defense".
