[ASKED] New oil fill 0w40
Do you recommend 2014-18 C7s use the new Mobil 1 0w40 dexos2 engine oil that has been announced to be the factory oil fill for 2019s. I'd prefer to use one oil instead of having to change from 5w30 to 15w50 for track use. If you don't recommend the earlier C7 using 0w40, why??
Heres a link to the oil change announcement for those who are unaware.

I'd also be curious to hear what the differences are between the current blend and the new blend and if Mobil 1 will be keeping both blends?

Based on what I know from discussions with Mobil 1 tech, the future 0W40 Dexos 2, currently going thru dexos approval, has a different spec from the current non-dexos 0W40 oil.
It is unknown at this time when and if the current non-dexos oil will be phased out.
The new dexos 2 will not be available as aftermarket on vendor shelves until later in the year.
At introduction, purchase may be possible via GM dealership first when introduced.

That's a bummer if the only way to get the new 0w40 at first is from the dealership. There is no way that will be a good price like Walmart charges for the 5 quart jugs. I was hoping to switch my 2018 over to the new 0w40 on the first change, but I really don't want to wait until the end of the year to do that change. I know that 5w30 M1 is still a great oil, but I am eager to see how the new oil performs (as I always do, I will get an oil analysis done at the end of every interval)

Did we ever get a definitive answer?....
If so, where can I find it. The local dealer has no knowledge of any change...
Thanks!!!!
