Is there any means to find out the original engine in 1971 Corvette if the original engine is not installed?

if the po . does not have it most likely it was damaged and junked. if you have the cars ownership history maybe try to contact past owners and maybe one of them could tell you what happened to it.i think some states dmv's will still give you past title history of a vehicle but privacy laws make it harder to trace them. some years ago I traced my old Camaro from Texas back to 1974 but it came from Colorado in 1974 and Colorado DMV would not give me any info. good luck searching

The tachometer red-line position will help discriminate between engines...if the tach has not been changed. (L-48, 5000; LT1, 5800; LS5, 5400; LS6, 6400) There are significant differences between exhaust systems for big block and small block engine...again, if the hardware hasn't been changed. There are other items, but those may give you a start.
