Sorry if this is redundant information.

FYI...

Bose Stereo for C5 Corvette -

Front 3.5" speaker = 4 ohm (Powered by headunit)
Front 8" Woofer = 0.5 ohm (Powered by amplifier mounted in the door)
Rear 6.75" speaker = 2 ohm (Powered by headunit)

Supposidly, the biggest problem with the front 3.5" speakers is the mounting height. If the tweeter protrudes to high it will contact the backside of the speaker grill. The tech guy from crutchfield says that there is only 0.275" available for a 3.5" speaker to protrude from the speaker mounting surface.

The only speaker that fits this criteria is the Alpine SPS-080A (per Crutchfield)

What a time to find all of this out about speaker depth... I had already put infinities in my 91... now I go to install the same in my 89 and the speaker won't fit... Since I want to move forward and stay with these speakers I will just run the speaker grills backwards and shim the speakers out until a better way is determined... I guess it is back to Home Depot for some wood after I sleep on it...
Anybody have any better ideas besides buying shorter speakers ?

I put in Boston Acoustic S35's. Audio Express has these for over $130, but hey you get the $1 install . I got them off ebay for less than $55 shipped, only cut one large gouge in my finger installing them. Fit great, sounds excellent. I had over $3k worth of equipment in my '87 Iroc vert, and just the Boston highs, stock door subs, stock rear speakers and a self powered 10" bazooka in the storage well sounds better than the Iroc ever did.

Hey Rain, you install anything yet?

nope.
Looked at the Kappas on ebay.
Found a new set in Mobile, AL sitting at 25$ for the pair.
Asked seller if he'd end early and sell outright..
Didnt work out. Going rate is about 45$ plus shippin on eBay though. So not out of budget.

but no, nothing installed yet. Have Infinity Kappa sub, amp, forum built cabinet, and wires on the way though.
Gotta get an RCA sub signal to the amp from the head -
(Guessing I cant chop the ends off an RCA cable and just tie in to the sub signal in the doors, can I?) *** HELP

Really? That's interesting to hear. I wonder if a Bazooka in my C6 vert and changing out the 3.5's would produce that kind of result.

I think the big trouble with the Iroc was I mounted speakers in the stock locations, which for that car was pathetic, speakers in the dash and either side in the back. I should have spent some of that $ on a good set of custom made door pods for a set of separates. I think the reason the vette sounds better, is at least the door speakers are facing the right direction! If you're thinking about upgrading your system, you can run all the wires for an amp and go try out a bazooka, there were a few places here a couple years ago that would let you try out the tubes before purchasing. Can't go wrong upgrading the door 3.5's.

Rain, I have heard of some people using the wires from the door subs as a "high level" input that some amps have. Or you can buy a high level to low level RCA output for around $20. After my GN was broken into twice, I ran the stock head unit with one of those adapters for a while, but there was a lot of "noise" in the system.

had considered just taking it off one of the pre-xover/pre-bose amp lines in the door but I think thats going to be more work than I care to play with.
Ordered the OEM1 and it should be here early next week.

Thanks everyone
