I am not too familiar with the c4 rear but you may be able to go with a 6" or 7" midbass or sub in the rear with a small mounting plate made that would allow for a "stock" install look and give you a bit more bass. Clean and clear generally requires some frequency management to the speakers and most multiple range speakers (2 ways/3 ways) struggle with the lower end of the spectrum. Those 6x9's you listed will NOT play anywhere near clear at 35hz let alone 50 hz (about where the "boom" from bass exists in cars). Everyone's perspective on what sounds good varies .. and you could certainly get quite pleasing sound from the above makeup provided you do not ask the system to play what it is not designed for (IE low bass notes).

G'luck

you can fit an 8" in the back of a C4
There are 1/2 Spacers used for the grille

jeff, thanks! i never thought about putting subs in the stock speaker holes.
so now i will be putting two 8'' subs in the rear and it looks like i can fit 6x9s in the front rockers. has anyone ever tried to do that in the front.
how will it sound with just 2 subs in rear and 2 6 1/2 or 6x9s in the front.

what are the best 8'' subs, i see you have kickers in yours. would you buy them again?

do i need 2 amps now, 1 for the subs and 1 for the front speakers or can i just use 1 amp for both?

thanks!

You are better served making a small template for a 6.5 and tweet combo for the front than trying to make a 6x9 fit IMHO. The sound quality from the components will be far superior to any 2 way 6x9 (linearity of the woofer, distortion of the cone shape etc etc). A 6.5/tweet combo with 2 8" subs will probably surprise you with how good it can sound. If you pick up a 4 channel stable to 2 ohm amplifier you could run the front components with channel 1/2 and bridge the rear channels 3/4 to the 2 8" subs and put about 100 to 150 watts per side to them pretty easily. No external crossover needed the amp should supply the lowpass to the subs. Be sure to invest in some sound deadening in the back area to help minimize the rattles from your new bass

The determining factor will be how much room you have for mounting depth... As far as best 8 " Subs go the JL Audio 8W7 is the best I have ever heard and will handle a ton of power...

I think the max Depth for the 8s needs to be 4" I used 1/2 thick MDF as mounting plates.

I like the Kickers, they are dual voice coils. I am running 2 amps. one for the 8s and one for the fronts, it sounds really good.

I am using Orion 225 HCCA amps (circa 1992)
