Anyone have Alpine Type-X components?
I do not see auditioning as an option in choosing. I have heard both, but in two totally different environments. There are no stores in the area that sell both. I don't believe in judging a speaker that way. I would have to hear both in the same setup, same amp, source, car etc. to make a decision based on that.
Instead, let me describe the music and sound I enjoy (in order): rock, country-rock (alt country), classical, jazz and a very small amount of hip-hop (Tribe Called Quest, Outkast, Blackalicious, Atmosphere, more "musical" hip-hop).
The sound I'm looking for is not bright. I don't like the "harshness" a lot of car setups produce. I like a flat EQ. Maybe that stems from spending so much time in recording studios. I want my highs detailed, but smooth. Punch is not so important, as punch to me is just exaggeration.
Will have an 8" or 10" sub to fill the low lows.
They will be driven by 150x2 in 4 ohms if I do choose the amp I'm looking at.
Any thoughts?

Probably would've sparked a bigger discussion.

Focal Polyglass are exactly that smooth sound you describe. Friend of mine made a set of "Daline" clones from them, a pair of 6.5's with a single tweet in a transmission line floorstander. They were wonderful jazz and vocal speakers, had that wrap-a-blanket around you smooth.
I'm a big fan of Focal so that must be taken into account when reading my opinion. I weighed Polyglass vs Kevlar for my C6 and finally chose Kevlar because when I'm driving that car I'm far more likely to play something loud & rocking vs smooth and jazzy.

The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
The V2 has an upgraded crossover, slightly bigger woofer and the same tweeter as my Kevlars. For the gray market difference of $70 I'd go that way, but if you're buying retail then it's probably alot more than that and I can understand a budget. You could still use the less expensive polyglass V1 coaxial for fill and the better V2 up front since that drives your soundstage. Put your budget into your front speakers, that's what matters most.
My friend has some X-Types I've yet to hear though...

another pro to the edesign speakers are that you are getting them from the manufacturer...aka 'authorized retailer' aka WARRANTY
You should check those ebay stores and make sure that you're not getting gray product and the speakers have the manufacturers orig. warranty. i don't think jl or focal actually authorize any ebay sellers
