Here's a dumb question. I have a DD Pioneer AVH4200 which has sd
card capability. I know how to store pics and video on a sd card but how to do I store music on a sd card...my Compaq laptop doesn't seem to have a sd card port. I'm already playing music thru a usb wire but thought I could store some more on a sd card. I'm a newbie to these
portable storage devices...no wonder I can't sell my used Alpine cd
changer!
You can go to Wal-Mart or Staples and buy a USB SD card reader for $10 or $20. Plug it into your computer and it will be automatically recognized as a drive. You can just copy music to it and odds are the Pio will see it and you can use it to control. I'm not familiar with Pio's setup but if you organize your music in Windows Media player, make playlists, etc you can probably "synch" that to the SD card and the Pio may recognize the playlists as well.
Noted and thanks. After I typed this, I thought about the sd card reader...that's pretty old school and my graphic artists used this but I never have, I guess I had a mental block as it just functions the same way as a usb drive.
I have over 800 files (tunes) in one directory and no problems.
I can load 800+ songs on a directory...but on random or linear play it never plays PAST song #255. This may be a limitation with the Pioneer software. The workaround is to make 4 directories with 255 or less songs and set the random to "ALL"...works like a champ

Yes, possibly the Pioneer software. I'm using Android 2.2 (on my Nexus One phone) and an app named Mixzing to play the files (mp3 and ogg) on the phone's 16gb SD card. So far I've not had any issues with any type of sequencing (linear, random, album, playlist, genre, etc.)
However, it is possible that I just haven't tried playing more than 255 at a time. Never knew this might be an earmark for any issues. Taking a trip in a couple weeks and will try and pay attention

I have this same problem on my 3200. Since I have 2000+ songs I shuffle, I ended up having to load artists starting with A in an 'A' folder, etc...now it plays them all.
BTW, it also does not recognize artists with a number as valid: 3 Doors Down vs. Three Doors Down.
The Pioneer software also does not know how to alpha sort either. It's weird, it mostly alpha sorts, just not totally.
