I am new to the forum. Thank you in advance for your help.
I just got a 1990 coupe a couple months ago and have been itching to upgrade the stereo. I have purchaed an Alpine CDA-105 for a head unit, a set of JL Audio VR 6.5" components for the front, and a Jl Audio G2250 2 channel amp to power the components.
I plan to start with just the components/amp up front and the head unit, then add a sub/amp later. I was thinking of JL Audio 10W3V3 paired to a JL Audio 500/1 for the sub/amp combo.
Here are my questions:
What are your opinions on my plans for audio equipment?
What is the best way to install the 6.5" components up front? Does anyone know of a slick way to do it or has anyone seen mounting plates for this purpose for sale?
The next question is what is the best way to go about installing the sub and amp combo in the storage bins? I have searched on the forum a fair amount but have found limited information for just how to go about it or if anyone sells an enclosure for the sub in the storage bin.
I am pretty handy when it comes to wiring and stereo installs but custom enclosures/mounting plates would be my weakness. I would just as soon purchase those items if possible or have some guidance building them.
I look forward to hearing your advice. Thank you!!
5 1/4" components will fit in the stock door sill speaker location with minor modifications. 6 1/2" components will require a new enclosure to be built. Also, 8" subwoofers will fit in the stock rear speaker area but, a new speaker mount will have to be made. There are no pre-built speaker enclosures available for the C4 Vettes.
I would buy a 4 channel amp with the two front channels powering the front components and the two rear channels bridged to power the two 8 ohm subwoofers wired in parallel + to + - to - for a 4 ohm load.
You can glue (use liquid nails) a 1/2" or 3/4" MDF board under the carpet against the rear wall to mount the amp or fabricate a false floor to mount the sub and amp for a cleaner look like this.
On the picture of the door sill, what size components do you show there? Did that particle board mount up to the surface of the factory speaker pod? Thickness of the particle board? Please give me a few more details on how things were accomplished in that picture.
Does the tweeter sound ok in the door sill location, or do i need to mount it elsewhere like you did?

The particle board mounts to the enclosure with a few short screws, the components are 5 1/4" Infinity Kappa's with the crossovers slid underneath the carpet behind the seats which are unnoticeable.
