Default Newsmy NU3001 in a C4

IN 2013 I bought an AppRadio2, used it for the summer and then I upgraded my phone which limited me on how to use the AppRadio. I started to set-up an Android stick.. but I did not like:
-Not having the correct time on every boot
-essentially having 2 OSes on the unit

So in 2014 I did a Nexus 7 in my car.. It was nice but had some quirks/issues as expected for sticking a tablet in the dash. it worked well and I could have gone further, but man it sure was a tight fit around the bezel

Now for 2015, I bought the Chinese Newsmy NU3001, there is a nice group of users on XDA that have them and many started modding the OEM android code. I think at some point it will have everything I need..

The unit installed:

Back up Camera

New bezel as I am not completely happy with the above install

One cool thing is a user modded the code to use a USB volume encoder, The touch controls on the side are nice, but difficult to manage while driving if you want to adjust volume. the Volume control **** will go next to my power key. Then next to that I might add 4 buttons to control Antenna, Amp power etc, at first I thought I would do them through the unit to an arduino (which I still might) but that limits me to this home interface, which is very close to centrafuse

I just wish I had more time to play around and get it how I like it.. I am also really tempted to get a second unit for my daily driver

this is essentially part 2 to my Nexus 7 thread as I continue my chnages

Glad this turned out as well as it did for you! Its the worst when you pioneer and fail. My c6 install was too easy compared to the work you have done lol. Kudos! I have been happy with my unit thus far and glad i made the purchase.

Alright,

big user support on XDA.. I am going to install the latest version they have released.. it supports a USB volume ****. I know it will be redundant with having the touch buttons on the display, but without SWC this will work for me.. I just need to decide where it will be mounted ( after I test it of course)

I am also thinking of moving my 6.5" speakers from the door to the floor. then the 1" and 4" that are in the floor rail will move to the door.. the 4" will use the 6.5 grill and the 1" will move up to the top of the door panel..

The stereo sounds great but I have noticed more and more the muffled sound when I move my leg or I have a passenger..

I was running Tuatara (that gave me the modded partition)

I then updated to XDAuto 1.1.6b3 with the modded Radio app with Ducking

I plan on updating to XDAuto 1.1.6c and that should then utilize the USB volume ****

I really wish this was in my Daily driver though too.. then I could test it out more

How's screen visibility on a sunny day with the top out?

Looks like it might be too reflective for my vert.

Mediocre, but I need to verify if I have the settings toned down for night time. there are some settings but with the illumination is does not cut the whole screen just turns on the button on the left..

forget it with polarized glasses

I can second that. Also the angle it sits in my car there is a horrible glare, but i imagine the stock screen that comes in the C6 had a similar problem so

Yeah, I checked it last night, there brightness during the day is max.. there is glare but I have a glossy screen protector.

my Nexus 7 had an anti-glare protector on it. There are some guys using a anti-glare protector they say is not bad. I might try it just to cut down on the glare.

Oddly enough I probably should have installed this in my daily car and left a basic radio in the corvette.. for the amount I drive it I don't need all of that, but it is rather nice

I have not turned on the radio in prog 5 years. I hate the radio, but if i have a passenger that likes the radio you can just use something like "i heart radio" or a lot of stations have their own streaming apps. I usually just stream music from slacker radio or spotify. I have recently set up a media server at home with all of my songs in a folder that i can access via PLEX on my Newsmy in the car.

ACTUALLY.. I might do that as well.. then I can get it set up exactly how I want to then duplicate it.. same in both cars.

That is one plan..

I need to sell my App Radio 2 I used before.. that was the original planned swap for the car.

What version of Plex do you have? I have the 'free' one, I assume it is a different one for Android use

Also do you there your phone when you get in your car? if so, do you have Tasker to automatically do it for you?

Other car is a Malibu Maxx SS, but the main programs would be the same..

Although I would need Torque or similiar for the Malibu since the Trip/Mileage/Oil life is displayed on the radio (ugh)
