Default How did Boston Acoustic measure their speakers

I had recently picked up what looks like near new or refur Boston Acoustic RX-57 speakers and they claim they are 5.25 inch.. Well after looking at them i realize they are bigger.. Seem more inline of a 6" if we were to measure them correctly... They have multi mounting holes and are round with no mounting ear's... So if i remember correctly i would measure the diam which is 6" . Only way i see a 5.25 measurement is to measure the diam of the foam surround of the speaker...Just is yucky that one can order a simple speaker and only to find out that Boston measured their speakers different... Anyone come across this before.
Here is a pic of the boston and a Morel 5.25

back when boston was sold they had measurements and diagrams. this honestly surprises me as sizing is often universal

After more research and asking coworker where he got them (gave to me) i would say they are more like RX-67 which bosto said were 6.5 But i say they are 6 inch, as i measured across basket..How they come up with 6.5 is ??????...
And here is link where my friend bought them.. And seller corrected his listing to show they suppose to be RX-67

Ditto. Great bang for the buck. I still have two pairs of T830 home speakers I bought from Audio King in 1996. I had to refoam the surrounds on the woofers recently but they still sound pretty darn good.

I had their high end car speakers in my car back in the late 80's. Bostons always seemed to be a pretty accurate warm sound that was music to my ears.

Are you sure those aren't 6.5's? they sure look it. Any stamping or markings on the magnet or do you have box they came in?

CoWorker who gave them to me bought them off ebay member and brown box.. And they have no markings...But since they were given to me i thought i try them out .That is when i noticed they were bigger than 5.25... So i found the ebayer and he has since updated his listing that they are RX-67...I did find a manual on line, as there is no way they are 6.5.. They are 6" across basket and the manual even mentions about how to install when replacing fact 6" in door's.... So why Boston ever listed these as a 6.5" is beyond me... unless the .5 was the tweeter, lol

Update...
So i guess Boston came up with the 6.5 inch by measuring them with grill installed... lol... So they really are a 6" speaker...
Also found out that there was a early vers and a late version.. But not sure if spec had changed at all or if one is better than the other.. But did see that diff magnet was used at one point..

I wonder how the old school 6" Boston RX-67 would sound compared to the New school Morel maximo ultra's 5.25, i have. ??..
When my 06 vert comes out in the spring i was gonna pick one out to try.. But if i go with the Boston ill have to cut out my conv partition to make then fit..

from what i remember, probably better. the maximo is the entry entry level morel. it's okay but more along the lines of an alpine type s. the tempo ultra is where they begin to get dynamic.

some of the old school boston stuff was really really good

Well if i decide to try out the Morel maximo first, they most likely will be better than the Kicker 5.25 D.S. that are back there now. or no..

oh god yes, the kicker ds are earaches, very shrilly tweeter

most of the best morel deals i have seen are on buy.com and from dynamic autosound. i bought a pair of morel tempo ultra 5x7s for my work truck last week for 179 shipped after coupon. $299 retail at crutchfield

morel has minimum targets for dealers so i think with some things dynamic sells at break even just to make sure they hit their yearly volume

Now ill have to decide if im staying with a 5.25 in the rear or modify my rear partition to install bigger speaker... I thought ive saw in the past where other's went bigger in the rear but cant seem to find the older post on here.. And also what's the best way (tool) to cut out the partition... Also is there any gain going from a 5.25 to a 6" in the rear of a vert.?..
Friend of mine saw my stock rear partition set up once,, and thought i be better off removing it and finding enclosure for speaker's that would fit behind each rear seat where partition is... Now that i think of it, how could any speaker do very good with the factory fit and 1/16 of inch fiber board behind speaker and only covers aprox 90 % of it. ????
We spend time and money getting our front sealed and dampened , so what about rear. ?????????
Which made me think of something like this,
Amazon Amazon
