Default C5. Stealthbox, Cargo Area vs Corner?

I currently have a JL Audio 10W03-4 mounted in a box that fits in the center cargo area powered by a Rockford Fosgate 500w class D amp.

The thing is that I use the car as a daily driver and use the cargo area in my coupe. I haven't really found a good way to protect the speaker and don't want to cover it up with whatever things I am hauling.

I thought a corner woofer enclosure might be a better option though the cabinet looks smaller in cubic feet. I wonder if it is necessary to have two woofers with this set up as far as sound quality is concerned. I also wonder if there is a weight savings with the corner fiberglass enclosures over my current partial MDF box.

Two woofers are expensive for be but doable if that is what it takes. It pisses me off a little that C6 corner enclosures are available so much cheaper than C5 ones. Not much I can do about that unless one of you knows of a more affordable option.

I need some recommendations from anyone who might have advice.

Thanks Rob.

how loud you want to get is another question. when i had a c5z i used a single 8w3v3 in the corner in a .4cuft sealed box. i didn't want to give up the center and didn't want a 10 in a small box due to SQ concerns

you're usually better off using a smaller sub in a larger box than a larger sub in a smaller box {unless SPL is your main focus}

you could easily build a small box for an 8" very inexpensively

I think my current 10" woofer stealth box is about .85 cu ft and has poly fill in it. That is supposed to be close to optimal for the JL I have (recommended .65 cu ft). I believe the corner boxes are about .5 cu ft which is slightly shy.

My car has some sound deadening but still is a little loud and there is some road noise.
I think I really just want the stealth box out of the way of the best area to store cargo (Its right in the middle of the cargo floor).

If I could make a hard grill/ stealth cargo cover for this thing I would. I'm afraid I ill set a bag on top of it and accidentally burn it up.

I wanted a lot of boom, so I got JL 12w6 in a custom box for the cargo area. Also got a JL grille (great way to protect it) The 10w3 should also have a JL grill available. I highly recommend looking into that option. The center bin has much more airspace your sub loves. .

Grill ordered.

Heine-sight being 20/20 I probably should have gotten a 12" box. I got the 10" box thinking I could cover it with a stock looking grilled cargo cover of some sort. Hmmm?

Maybe I should just quit worrying about it. Lol.

I run a single 12" SSA XCON powered by an Orion XTR 1500.1 This sub/amp combo gets crazy low and loud when called upon.

As far as your original concern over things damaging your sub when you have stuff to haul, I use a soundstream spider grill which protects well and looks better than a standard waffle grill to me.

I had to space the grill up with 1" nylon spacers because my sub would hit the grill at it's standard height.

The spider looks like it could take a beating.
It should scare off any small animals too.

that's just JL spec, that's not a qtc .707 alignment. optimum is often larger than the spec jl recommends. the 10" sub they have that does the best in small enclosures is the 10w6v3 and it really should be in .8 or so. subs resonate in too small of an enclosure. gives you they annoying 50hz boom. if you want a smooth natural rolloff aming around qtc 707 is optimal. it's still punchy but rolls deep. the 8w3v3 needs .42 cuft to hit qtc 707. EQ +3db at 35-40hz and cabin gain takes care of the rest. this means gross internal should be about .47cuft. add polyfill and you will have a nice accurate driver. 3/4" mdf or hard plywood recommended

if you want SQ do this. if you want SPL it's all about a lot of cone area. accurate box size is less important

^great technical advice.

A 10W6V3 is two deep to fit in by stealth box. The box is about 5" deep. The larger flush box has substantially more volume. Probably more suitable for a 12" driver.

I'm not necessarily complaining about the sound of my current set up but more the ergonomics of it the stealth box. The corner box seems more out of the way but also requires a fairly shallow driver. Either enclosure only leaves two JL woofer options.

totally relate. that's really what made me think of the 8w3v3. if you need more output you can always use two and they stash so well in the side. smaller physical driver. easy to hide. sound great if you run them in the right enclosure. this would free up your center and let you use the dead space on the sides.

I'm trying to think of a way to make a cubby hole cover that can bear a little weight and look stock.

just noticed the hifonics odin. that's a series 8 it looks like which would make it about 20 years old. that's a long long life for a car amp.

Yes, original owner here. Bought the Odin back in my youth in the 90s.

This amp is all original, never been serviced and sounds great.

Hifonics, damn that brings back some memories. My old RF Punch 150 I bought new in 1992 is still going strong.

I had Vettenuts build two custom corner enclosures for me for my C5 that stand up more than their standard build to get around .75 cf of airspace per. With the right 10" subs you can get these to sound accurate and hit really hard.

I don't like the amp rack so plan to change that.

that's about as nice looking and functional as you're going to get though. amp rack is in dead space and so are the woofers. looks great imo

That's my dilemma. I still like to be able to throw a few bags in the back to head out of town for a weekend with my girlfriend and still have the the room for that and not have it all taken up by audio gear. One could still install amps behind the seats to create a little more space but you're right, that spot on the rear deck is fairly dead space. The build just doesn't have a lot of pizzaz to it. I would like something that really pops, kind of like this only take up a little less space:
