Amp Question for C7 8" JL Audio in Stock Sub Box
I am looking for a Sub amp that has a very small footprint:
Dimensions approx: 6.5" W x 1.5" H x 9.0" L
That has around 400 watts at 4 ohms
I found a Soundstream Rubicon RN1.2000D that seems to fit the bill, but I am not familiar with it.
I am using it for a JL Audio 8W1v3-4 that is installed in the stock sub box in my 2015 C7. I bought a Zed Audio Mikro I that puts out 200 watts RMS at 4 ohm, but this was not enough amp to push the sub. The sub only calls for 150 watts rms, but it seems to need more than that. I'd rather get a bigger amp and not push it too much than push a smaller amp.
I hooked up a Kenwood Excelon XR900-5 I had that puts out 400 watts at 4 ohms and the sub sounds fantastic. I could not believe how great it sounds. I covered the sub box in Noico 80 mil Sound deadening mat that I got from Amazon.
I believe this made all the difference in it sounds good.
I wanted a completely stealth install. I think I will be able to mount the Soundstream amp or similar small amp next to the stock amp/fuse panel so it will be out of sight.
I also changed the front 3.5 speakers to Polk DB351 and rears to Polk DB651. I only wanted to install the sub at this point. I think it sounds pretty good just changing the stock speakers to the Polk speakers.
I added the Noico 80 Sound deadening to the doors and rear compartment area. This made a huge difference in improving the sound.
I hooked the amp up using the the AudioControl LC2i tapped off both front door sub speakers.
Any amp suggestions before I buy the Soundstream?

This is just to show you the sub in the sub box. I also added the Noico Sound Deadener to the doors, behind the seats and complete rear compartment. I also added a layer of Frost King Duct Insulation to the rear compartment, including over the rear wheel wells. The car seems quieter and the stereo sounds much, much better. I changed the stock Z51 Michelin tires to Hankooks and they are also quieter, they also don't throw up little pebbles all over. I want to minimize as much of the road noise as possible.
I am trying to fit a small sub amp right behind the fuse box, just under the sub box. The Zed Audio Mirko 1 did fit there, but it was not powerful enough.

That looks great. I wish I had seen this before buying the Stealthbox. Do you have a wiring diagram for the factory amp? I was told also to tap the front speaker signal. Just don't know where they are and whether to tap the inputs or outputs.
I could use some help. Thanks!

Thank you buddy. I really appreciate it. I think I'm going to use the 6 channel processor of the same brand. I have some old school JL Audio and PPI amps sitting around.
Merry Christmas!

Got a noob question for you. In another write up he's using signal from only one door. Don't you need a right and a left channel input? I'm running a JL Audio stealthbox with one set of inputs but it's a dual voice coil speaker. I'd appreciate some Bass 101 tutelage. Thanks

Just an update on this thread. I installed the Soundstream Rubicon RN1.2000D. This set up sounds great. I have the adjustable bass **** mounted up front that I can fine tune when switching to different music sources. The bass coming from the box is 1000% better than the stock set up. It sounds great even with the top off.
Recap of what was used:
Changed front 3.5 speakers to Polk DB351 and rears to Polk DB651 (just replaced stock speakers running off original amp)
Soundstream Rubicon RN1.2000D (powers the JL Audio 8W1v3-4 that is installed in the stock sub box)
AudioControl LC2i tapped off both front door sub speakers.
Noico 80 Sound deadening to the doors and rear compartment area. I also added a layer of Frost King Duct Insulation to the rear compartment, including over the rear wheel wells.
