Default Metra vs. Vettenuts Double DIN bezel

Anyone done a hands-on comparison between these two bezels?

http://www.metraonline.com/part/DP-3021B
http://www.vettenuts.net/index.php?l..._detail&p=1764

Obviously the (significantly less expensive) Metra doesn't have the lid on the "ashtray," but is there any difference in fit and finish?

I can't give you direct info on the Metra but there are many reports here on CF.
I have a Vettenutts bezel and it is a perfect match in fit and finish to the original GM part. This makes it worth the $$ difference to me

It sounds like I got one of the last DD units last year before he shifted focus.

While I cannot speak for the product of either vendor in this case, I can speak to the customer service which Marc and his whole team give to customers. They have been BAR NONE the best vendor I have dealt with in years.

I have an unused DD bezel and am considering picking up a Metra. If neither matches the OEM finish, I'm thinking the one that's actually smoother (Metra) may be better.

What would a standard DD Mods black bezel be worth if sold?

I have The Vettenuts bezel and previously had the Double D bezel. The Vettenuts bezel is much nicer with a better fit and finish. From what I have seen the Metra does not match at all with a very smooth finish. The price on it is very good though.

I know this is old, but given the lack of details I thought I would post up. I took the plunge on the Metra unit and am pretty happy. The finish IS smooth and flat black, and I love that part of it. The fit is pretty good, but not perfect. I consider myself picky, and am happy with the overall result. It did take a lot of tries to get everything lined up, but this is my first double din install and I'd assume they would all be similar.

That looks great man!

I finally got my DD bezel installed too. Fit was not perfect either.

So can a DD unit not be installed in a C5 without either the Vette Nuts or Metra bezel?

Yes, you could install a DD but it requires removing the top metal shelf behind the bezel to allow the larger DD unit to fit, but your stock bezel will not fit around a DD unit.
You will either need to modify your stock bezel to make the DD fit or buy one already modified.
There are many posts here that show pics of what is required.

I saw a post where the bar under the HU was simply cut to allow the HU to fit. I can do that & save myself $200

Also, how does a DD unit mount with reusing the stock bezel?
