Default Any interest in my DDX9903S?

My kenwood 9903S has only been in service for 1 month. I have always been a fan of both Kenwood and Alpine and I'm starting to get very interested in the Alpine ILX-F309. Anyone looking to replace their head unit? $300 and I'll install it for you in the Spring/Woodlands area (Houston, Tx). You buy the PAC adapter and mount.

That new Alpine is pretty neat. I just watched a couple of videos on it. Might be a tricky install though.

I've got an idea of how I'm going to install it. Moving things down as to not cover any part of the vents and doing away with the cig.lighter and ashtray. Hoping to get a tighter gap between the display panel and bezel than the couple of pics that I've seen on here. But first, someone has to help me by buying my radio.
Willing to ship also.

About 7.5" opening in console trim.
Are you going to cut your console then? There is not 9 inches of width available without a major modification.

The screen sits out front of the dash. So it has a single din install/mount but the screen itself would "float" above the console so it shouldn't take any cutting. Since it is a single din, you can have it mounted up higher or lower in a double din dash to adjust how high it physically sits.

FNBADAZ06 had it installed in his Z06.

Halo Installed in Z06

right - no cutting of the trim panel, just removing the ashtray and cig lighter and moving components down. I am also hoping I can make the single din part fit in a bit further so the screen can be flush with the trim panel or at least smaller gap than what is shown here: F309 in Z06

I’ve been contemplating the halo9 myself. I haven’t been able to convince myself that it would look good in the stock trim with the ac controls moved down to the ashtray. I hope you do this project, post pictures, and prove me wrong. I want this radio to look decent in the c5 so badly!

If you do this, please post your results. Please also comment on how access to the center ac vent is and if shifting causes contact with the radio display.

thanks and good luck!

Here is a pic from FNBADAZ06's thread. I'm not sure why you guys are saying the AC controls need to be moved. It looks like everything is still in the correct position. Edit: This is in a C6, I just noticed some of you may be referring to the C5 when mentioning the AC controls. Carry on.

I do have a C6....
If you notice in those pics, the ac vents are covered a bit, that's why I want to move things down. Also. I don't like the big gap (floating) so going to try and make it closer. If I do sell my radio.

My mistake. I saw your user name and assumed you were talking about a c5. Good luck with your project, I’d still like to see the results!

The screen is adjustable, meaning you can slide it up higher or lower depending on how you want it to sit. So from the example in that photo, if you think it is sitting too high and blocking the vents, you can adjust it and slide the screen down some without uninstalling the unit.

Here is a video. Jump to the 14 minute point to see the screen getting adjusted.

thanks for posting that. It's cool that it's adjustable, but without moving the ac controller down, it will cover the top of the controller. We'll see in a couple of weeks. I'll either regret selling my perfectly good radio or be happy with a humongous screen at my finger tips.

Trying again in F/S section. This radio along with the stealthbox and several amplifiers.

Great thread! I especially like the video. I'm going to be getting an ILX-F309 sometime in the next month for my 2000 C5. I'll let you know how it goes.
