I wouldn't get the 9903 because it is getting a little old. It was replaced by the 9904 and then the 9905. You can get a new 9904s off eBay for $399 right now. If you don't care about cd player, look at the Kenwood eXcelon DMX905s ($395 new on Amazon). I'm not a fan of the smaller screen and exposed cd slot on the DDX6905s, just my opinion. Sound quality on the Kenwoods is top notch. The eXcelon models give you 5v amp pre-out vs 4v on most other Kenwoods.

This isn't one of your choice but check out the new Alpine iLX-W650. It's only $300. I just bought one. I had been looking at the Kenwood DMX905s before this Alpine came out.

I've never had any luck with buying factory refurbished stuff myself, I'd suggest you avoid that one. I personally like Pioneer myself, been buying them for over 40 years and never had an issue with their stuff, the only reason I've gotten newer ones was to keep up with technology.

Also, the 6905s is a newer Kenwood model, not older.

FYI ...
The DDX6905S has a radio tuner ... but it's not a built-in HD radio tuner ... if that makes any difference

A higher pre-out voltage is typically considered better for quality of sound or cleaner sound. It allows you to not have to turn the gains up as much on your amp which could possibly introduce noise into your system. Some say that if you have top of the line, high quality equipment, that it might not matter. But how many of us fall into that category.
