Default Kenwood DNX874S with Garmin Nav (change vehicle icon)

I have a question for someone that is knowledgeable with the late model Kenwood head units with built-in Garmin Nav.

I have a Kenwood DNX874S in my 2011 GS. I don't like any of the vehicle icons that come with this head unit ... On another Garmin I have (which is a stand-alone Garmin 'Drive60' GPS), I can download many other vehicle icons from the Garmin website, but on this Kenwood with Garmin Nav, I can't find a way to do this.

Anyone here find a way to download a custom vehicle Nav icon to these Kenwood head units that have built-in Garmin Nav?

I am thinking that it might be impossible.

Thanks,

When I installed my Kenwood I wanted to do the same. Since I had always used vehicle specific icons on all the standalone Garmins I have owned. So I emailed Garmin tech support about this and was told that the Kenwood software didn't support user-installed vehicle icons. To date I have not had any luck getting this to work. IF you find a way, please let us know.

This seems to say it is not possible:

Are Additional Vehicle Icons or Voices Compatible with Kenwood Devices?

The Kenwood devices with Garmin navigation do not have the ability to add additional vehicle icons or voices.

Yeah,
Makes no sense to me. I guess it is either Kenwood or Garmin not wanting the other to have greater access to their software.
I have also been unable to transfer the many addresses/locations that I had built up in my standalone Garmin to the Garmin in my Kenwood. ;^(

Another thing that don't make me real happy is the map updates for my Kenwood / Garmin head unit ... Cost for the latest map update is $70 from Garmin.

BTW ... The Garmin 'stand-alone' nav (Garmin 'Drive 60LM') that I use in my other car .... comes with free lifetime map updates.
