Default A D.I.Y. Infotainment system for your early C4

I've been a Corvette Forum member for nearly 20 years and I never realized this Audio/Electronics forum existed! I've been posting my project info in the C4 section but maybe other Corvette generations would be interested.

Wow. That's slick as hell. I'm going to have to make a note of this and come back to it if I ever get my truck done. Nice job, both on the head unit and the documentation!

I'm pretty jazzed! My Comvette Project (diy BOSE head unit replacement) was featured on the Ponoko.com website today:

Spot The Laser Cut Parts In This Car

I think they did a nice job of describing the project.

Default C4 Delco-GM/Bose Speaker Amplifier Repair

I found a nice PDF file written by Gary James titled 'Bose Amplifier Repair Notes' Rev 3/14/02. Apparently it was posted on a ZR1 web site, although it seems to apply to just about all C4 models. Anyway he provides a great discussion of possible Amplifier Repairs by replacing the Electrolytic Capacitors and FETs. The 2 ICs seem to be Bose proprietary and unreplaceable, unless you can find some old ones still working. I plan to Replace all the Electrolytic Capacitors and FETs in my 1992 LT1 and see what happens - hopefully it will be a pleasant outcome as they have never been touched before. The only caveat I'd like to offer is that Gary James provides Capacitor and FET part information for the parts that he sought through DigiKey. He couldn't find the original Capacitor vendor of Nichicon, and instead went with Panasonic. I found all the Nichicon Capacitors at Mouser. The only Capacitor that required a different specification was the 820 uF one which I had to request a Low Impedance Electrolytic; all other spec were as quoted by Gary James. I paid about $15 for the Capacitors and $18 for the FETs, and ordered more than I really need; for both Front and Rear Speaker Pairs for the 1992 Corvette LT1 Coup - you get discounts on quantity thresholds like 10, 25, 50, 100, etc. There are some good YouTube videos available to learn how to disassemble the Speakers from the C4 Corvette, Front and Back. Thought others may find this information helpful if interested.
