So full disclosure I am somewhat new to the audio side of stuff, mostly just left stock system alone. I just purchased another C6Z and am gutting it this winter to sound deaden it and figured while I have everything out I may do a little upgrade. Did the same sound deadening in my old C6Z but that car had Bose and I didn't mess with anything other than put a different head unit in. I'll be putting the same Kenwood head unit in this car.
I have purchased an NVX Boost Stealth Sub and Amp that will be going in, and I'm thinking of doing the upper door speakers and the rears, leaving the lower door speakers alone. I will not be powering the speakers with an amp, just the sub. The speakers I am considering are Rockford Fosgate P132 for the 3.5" and Kicker 46CSC54 for the 5 1/4" in the rear. Not looking to spend a ton on this project but figured while it's all torn apart this may help improve the sound a little.
If you're planning on deadening then you're already halfway there. Why not spend a few extra bucks and be really happy? How much are you willing to spend? I can piece something together for you that won't leave you disappointed.
I literally just got done putting the P132's in the doors and the kicker C54s in the rear. I also put 6 1/2 Kickers in the lower doors. Got all of it from Crutchfield. Vary happy with all of it and the sound, while not TOP OF THE LINE is much better. About as good as my ears can hear anyway. I also deadened the doors and the entire back of the car. I used up 36 sq ft and ran about 6 sq ft short. Lots of nooks and crannies over the wheels and across the back. And the cubbies in the back used up about 3 sheets each! I also want to put some behind the seats so I ordered a little more. I used Dynamat in my C3 and it was a lot easier to work with. Not sure how much difference the kilmat makes with the extra effort of smoothing out all the little squares in it. But it was significantly cheaper. Amazon was the go to place for that. My goal was to make the music from my Kenwood HU sound better to my 72 yr old abused ears. Not a big fan of thumping bass but the system works well for us. It was a lot more work that I anticipated but worth it.
