Default Install problem

I've installed my system and got everthing back together, but now the trunk release on the dash dosn't work. I've check the switch and it's good. I can open the trunk with the FOB. Is there an interlock associated with the stock speakers? Has anyone had this problem? I kinda don't want to take it to the dealer. they're going to charge me $100/hr to trouble shoot it just to tell me they can't find anything. Does anyone have any suggetions? :cry

Happened to me, but it was because I forgot to plug the wire into the dash switch. Doh!

Since the FOB can work the hatch - it's probably tied to the button, or the wires going to the button. I haven't looked it up - but maybe there's a fuse tied to the button? I know there's a lot of sharp aluminum in the location of that button - maybe a wire got cut or shorted??? Just guessing - looks like you might have to go back in ... :cry

I though I look over everything (that I could see) before I but everything back together. I may have to take some of it apart and look again :mad but I'm sure I didn't see anything cut. When I connected the fuse (external 80 amp fuse between the battery and the amps) I did make a spark. But I wouldn't think that would affect anything with the car power circuit because the wire going to the amps are independant of the car circuit power wire. Does anyone know of any fuses that might have blow other then the ones in the battery compartment. I've checked all of those and they are fine.

I hit this problem once myself....you probably pinched the wiring harness that run in the center console (wires for the traction control, accessory plug in the armrest, etc). Where it goes in it passes over the frame that supports the heater controls and radio, and there is a sharp edge. The fuse for it is in the passenger footwell....I'm at work now, so can't look it up, but I think it was the same fuse as drives the accessory 12v plug.

Oh, and be ready if you try and replace the fuse. When I did it I still had the short, and it made a nice little arc when I tried to replace it.

EDIT: OK, looked it up....memory was a bit off, but close :) it's MiniFuse 32 (F/TNKDR) in the passenger footwell....power for the Fog Lamp/Rear Compartment switch, Traction control switch, and fuel tank door switch....

that's cool. The fog lamps, the trunk release, the fuel door hatch arn't working. maybe that's it. I'll check it when I get home. I hope that's it. the only thing is that the traction control button is working.

Glad to hear that was it! I remember when it happened to me, the only way I was able to track it down was to go through the wiring diagrams in the service manual.

As for me, my background is in electrical engineering....although I'm now I'm really more of a development manager type. Sometimes I'm amazed at the twists and turns a career can take over time! :)

well glad to hear you found your problem.I wonder if that's why my cruise quit working after I replaced speaker wiring.Dang now I have to take dash panels down again and see what wire came apart I guess.
