1980 upgraded OEM radio intermittent sound loss
I own a 1980 corvette with a factory original AM-FM stereo radio that has been upgraded to MP3 capability
When installed several years ago everything was fine. I had also upgraded with new speakers.
lately My speakers (all 4) cut in and out for long periods of time.
The unit does not lose power.
Could a bad ground cause this?
Any ideas on what could be the issue?
Any troubleshooting methods would be appreciated.
Thank you for your time

I might suggest posting this in the C3 general section. I know this is for audio issues but a lot more people will see it in the C3 section. My experience here is that is is geared more towards newer systems. I would look at the grounds, that would be the simple easy thing. But it also might just be the head unit finally getting old and a soldered connection is failing. Maybe putting another HU in for a few days and not changing out any speaker leads and see if it happens again. Even though the unit was upgraded, parts of it are still pretty old.

Just look under C3 for the General section. At the top it will show START A NEW THREAD. headline something like 80 radio loosing sound and you will get a lot of people replying. Sometimes TOO. Many but you will get some suggestions. Welcome aboard.

It's not a power ground. If it were, the unit would lose power during that time. In the other hand, if one of the speakers or wires is getting shorted, then that could cause this issue. Check for shorts and if all that checks out, then it's the had unit.
