It really comes down to user preference on the menus and functions and likely price for most people. I recommend going into a couple car audio stores and spending a few minutes with each. I'm a Kenwood fan, but can't complain about the Alpines or Eclipses I've had in the past.
Kind of dizzying trying to narrow down a choice. Anyone running these units, if so, any feedback?
I definitely want WIRELESS Android Auto/Car Play and WiFi hotspot. I want to run WAZE. I don't need SAT XM. Also want at least ONE backup camera port.
I can't offer any advice on any of these double DIN units (I'm still trying to figure out getting my Nakamichi into my C6), but based on my ancient car audio biases (which may no longer be relevant given these companies have changed much since then), I'd tend to pick Alpine>Kenwood>Pioneer. I've had experiences with both Alpine (my '73 Charger hotrod build) and Kenwood ('88 Acura RS Integra), and both had their good points and drawbacks, it came down to interface and personal preference per Im.Ur.Leader.) I'm not sure how you would view their differences, but I'd seriously look at how rear view camera screens would appear on any choice of headunit, and it probably would come down more to your choice of camera rather than depend on the head unit as it would just be relaying a video signal.
I totally forgot to mention: One very personal bias of mine is the need for a ROTARY volume **** (NOT BUTTONS). That is a very personal requirement, though.
I'm a big Alpine fan for yers and I have the Alpine iLX-W650 in my 2011 C6 and the iLX-W670 in my '97 C5. Very impressive headhunts and not disappointed at them, too. Shop around for what you want and that's what really matters the most!!! Good luck on your pick!!!
wired connection to parking brake required to access settings, video display, and other features on this receiver (the parking brake must be connected and set, released, and set again)
That seems weird, that you have to set your parking brake twice to get into the settings and video display. Any way to over ride this?
I installed the iLX-507 about a year ago. What I absolutely hate is when adjusting the equalizer, the touch screen is not sensitive enough and I would have to repeatedly touch the point I want to adjust to get it to move. Its very annoying and I'm ready to swap out the unit because of this. Also, the EQ interface is not represented as the traditional slider/bands that you would normally see but instead is represented by frequency numbers.
I get frustrated everytime I want to make an audio adjustment because of the non-responsive screen and non-traditional layout.
