I have 4 track days on three of my 710s (275/17 fronts and 315/17 rears), but my right front tire has only 2 track days, since I had a bad puncture in it. I threw it away and bought a new one from Tire Rack.
Unfortunately the left front got a lot harder workout than the right front at Watkins Glen earlier this month, so idealy, I would like to just swap the two front wheels to help even out the wear. Kumho is clear in saying that it doesn't matter which way these are mounted initially as far as rotation goes, but I am hesitant to change the direction of rotation after they have been "burned in" over so many track miles.
Does anyone have an informed opinion as to whether this would be a problem?
Not sure if you'll take AutoX experience as informed or not but I've been swapping the 710s' side to side without any noticible effect. I haven't been really keeping track but now and then I'll make a point to move them to the other side (I pretty much always keep them oriented on the tire trailer the same way...)
Travis - thanks. For low speed, I wouldn't worry about it either, but at over 140 I become more of a worrier. Remember the tread separations on the original 710s?
BTW - I admire your tire trailer; with that rig I would get rid of my car trailer.
No problem flipping them at all, works great to prolong the life of them on cars that don't have proper alignment.
Just want to make sure we are talking about exactly the same thing. For my next high speed track event I am considering swapping the front wheels left to right with the tires still mounted, after many track miles, therefore changing the direction of rotation of the fronts. If this does not seem to present a problem for those who have done it, I'll stop worrying about it.
Switching side to side should be done consistently to even wear on left or right side intensive tracks. I can't see any problems with the Kumhos, they're not directional according to Kumho.
If you physically flip them on the rims, you'll notice a distinct lack of grip until they wear "flat" again...
