Steve Ahlgrim ran his 1991 ZR-1 in OLA for many years. His car was pretty much stock other than a Borla exhaust.
1994 3rd overall
1996 4th
1997 3rd

Steve is coming back with better tires, suspension, and horsepower.. like I said he is going to surprise some people.
I will still say that a C5 or C6 Z06 is plenty able to run top 10. The reason it hasn't been done is most of the good drivers are going for first, and bring lots of HP/grip, instead of just proving that one of those can go top 10.

A stock C6 Z yes. A stock C5 Z no. Not in this group

Stubbs was in 5th last year before the rain, but C6Z and C5Z are different stories for sure. I think it's very doable with attrition, but would take a top 5 driver otherwise to have a shot at top 10. Attrition always plays a big role of course.
Seems most decent drivers in "stockish" C5 Z's land in the 20's somewhere.
Good luck everyone!!

Sitting in South Bend getting ready to hit the "sticker and tech" phase.
Was able to get some seat time in the car yesterday (turnpikes count don't they?) - it managed over 20 mpg on the highway - life is good.
Will meet some of you today I guess....
I will be there in a mostly stock Mustang

To all that are competing , have fun, be safe, and may the force be with you........
My head wasn't completely into it this year, maybe I need a recovery year.....
I may try to come see you all @ either ORP or Mid-Ohio...

Aquaman: Honestly, I get a bit tired of folks discounting previous years entrants accomplishments...almost like "anything before was not nearly as impressive as this year that I'm competing." Hogwash.
I see that as someone that can't back up their mouth with real numbers.
Sure the cars get faster...but don't the cars get easier to drive fast???
Next Topic: I do wish all the competitors good luck. To see folks actually put it on the line and get involved rather than car shows and waxing goes along way in my book...
OLOA is an awesome competition-levels the playing field allowing average joes to at least be close to the folks with sponsorship, etc.
I'm hoping for a return in 2009...but it won't be stock like it was in 2001 (ok...Corsa gave me an exhaust for my 60,000 mile LT4).
Good Luck! Lots of miles means lots of excitement.

Talk to most who have done this a few times including both Brocks, Swan and a few of the better drivers they will tell you that 05 was by far the best year as far as quality cars and drivers. Last year was good and this year seems to be along the lines of 04. Just not as high quality all around. But I'll still have fun this being my 5th and all.
Actually it does get better, and the drivers do typically improve and cars do get easier to drive fast. Plus tire technology etc...

Check lap times from then to now on similar tracks. I like the fugawi boys alot. Great guys, And Steve is a hell of a driver, but their results have slipped as time has gone on and there car has stayed the same. They are still very consistant but not top 5 anymore more like top 20.

I'm unsure of what you are saying. 2004 was our year to break into top 10 and that was my ultimate goal for OLOA. We added 100 HP to the car, Koni shocks, and lot more experience prior to that event. My brother and I feel it was a great effort. To have expected anything else would have been unreasonable.
The event is what it is...you come that year to compete to that particular years fanatics...I'm sure it ebbs and flows a bit, but why continue to spout 2005 as the year that was tough doesn't seem to do anyone any good when 2007 is the subject.

There are a lot of people asking where the R A F T stickers and gang are hanging out... Because they haven't been seen in South Bend. The story that they are being told is that there is a major re-organization of RAFT taking place and the senior mgmt is building things bigger, badder, and more in tune to conquer all in '08. Seriously, lots of people asking. Lots of people that are concerned that they aren't finishing one position lower in the overall standings.
Lots of no shows. My crew will have an easier time on the top 10 from the looks of it.

What are you in?
Met a lot of folks yesterdays and caught up with a lot of old friends.
Made it a point to meet the Vette folks running.
SSGT2BB looks like a full class with a few C4s running with the Mustangs still. Mustangs range from a Hertz GT350 rental to three supercharged ones (1 factory - 2 are aftermarket).
Jon was working on his car in Ohio at 8PM last night.
Brian Smith and Leh Keene showed about driver meeting time.

This really sounds like a lot of fun.
I really would like to think about this for next year.
I have a decently modified Zo6 that would probably fit in pretty well.
What about those that have no track time at the tracks listed?
Do you get any practice time?
What do you do about tires? can you change at the track? do you pull a trailer? do you have a "parts" chaser vehicle?
This sounds like it would be a great guys car trip and if it costs 10k split two ways between the two drivers thats not a horrible amount of cash.
Good luck Jeff. See you at Roebling on the 18th. I have a couple of old friends coming down from SC to drive for the first time. Maybe i can get with you and get you as their instructor.
