Default How do Michelin Sport Cup do on the track?

Any experience/recommendations using 19" rear and 18 front Sport Cup tires on the track.

I've only tracked 18's all the way around. 295-30 front/315-30 rear. Stick like glue, great acoustical feed back(SCREEEEEEEECH )

295/30-18 & 345/30-18 for me. They stick well once you get the heat into them. They overload the suspension and brakes after that! You need a set of track wheels anyway since the Cups are lousey street tires. A lot better selection in 18s.

I just don't want to compromise the stability control by using 18s in the rear so I'll stick to 19 as Sport Cup has that size now.

As long as the OD of the rear tire is close to what the stock 19" was I can't imagine you'd hurt AH...

Stock OD of the 285/35R19 is 26.85" (681.99mm) and the M SC 305/30R19 is 26.20" (665.48mm).

That's a difference of 2.5%. I hope that dosn't cause an issue.

I drive to and from the track(s) on the MPSC's all of the time with no problems. I just finished off a set yesterday at Reno/Fernley. I got just under 5000 miles and 8 trackdays out of this set up. Excellent tire on the track once you heat them up.

What sizes are you using? 19" in the back?

I run 18s all around 295fronts and 345 rears I done 9 track days and over 30 sessons and there still in decent shape. There expensive but they really hold up. Very happy with them, wish I could get some more. JD

What size are you going to run on the front? I'm just repeating what I've been told here: You need to keep the rear a bit bigger than the fronts for AH to work correctly -- ie. keep the same front:rear ratio. Stock the rears are ~4.4% taller than the fronts. The most common answer seems to be if you want AH you need to be atleast a little bigger in the rear.

I think AU N EGL has said in the past that lots of people run square set ups (ie. same size front and rear), but I've never seen him outright say those folks use AH or not, so I've assumed not.

Stock GY F1:
275-35/18: 25.58"
325-30/19: 26.68"
...Delta: 1.10"

MPSC:
295-30/18: 24.97"
345-30/18: 26.15"
...Delta: 1.18"

For the TC computer to be happy it is more about size differential from front to rear than the absolute size...

I think you want to get beyond using acitve handling or any other controls lest you develop some bad habits or wear your pads out too quickly.

I used 1010tyres.com calculator

My stock Z51 GY:

Front: 245/40R18 which calculates to 25.71" OD
Rear : 285/35R19 which calculates to 26.85" OD

Difference is 1.14"

The Pilot Sport Cup:

Front: 265/35R18 calculates to 25.30" OD
Rear: 305/30R19 calculates to 26.20 OD

Difference is 0.90"

Is that enough to keep Active Handling happy?

I understand the brake wear issue but I'd like to have some safety available on hand as I'm learning this car.

I've run that set-up for a year (5 track days) with excellent results. Works equally well with or without the AH on.

I think the top 4 cars in the 2007 One Lap were on Michelin Pilot Sports. I will run them there next year if I enter again

I would be curious to try these...I have seen alot of GT3 cars with these on and they appear to have great grip...granted, the R6's are probably better, but definitely drop off a little after the first few heat cycles. This might be a great tire for track days where the last .1 isnt a big deal.
