Default Hawk Blues for autocross?

Has anyone tried Hawk blue pads for autocrosses? I'm wondering how well they work cold...I'm currently using HP+ and am going to do some brake work this week before a track event Saturday, including ordering brake pads. HP+ are pretty good for autocross, but could be better at tracks. So how are the blues for autocross?

The Blues are not great cold and tend to grap hard at low speed. You would be better off to just change front pads from HP+ to Blues when you are going to run a track day. If they make the Hawk Blacks for your car that is good choice for both types of events.

Blues are really hard on rotors when they are cold. I would also say swap between HP+ and real track pads as needed. The HT-10 or Blacks are supposedly better than the Blues.

I agree with about, Blue's like to be around 1000deg F to work properly, and unless you can go do a warm up lap, you're better off with a lower temp pad for autocross.

How do the Black's compare to HP+? Would they be worth it for the tracks (over the HP+)?

Pegasus has HT10's for my car but only enough for the fronts. I could do HT10 F/HP+ R; or HT10 F/Black R; or Black F/R. I would prefer to keep the same compound f/r but I'm open to suggestions.

PS I appreciate all the help guys!

According to Hawk:
Optimal Temp. Range
Blue - 250-1000
Black - 100 - 900
I like the HP + for a decent all purpose pad. The Blacks are definately more aggressive and are not really streetable but I like them for autocross & HS time trials. They are great with very little heat. The Blues require heat and are therfore not practical for autocross but they are great for HPDE's.
Both Blacks, & Blues will put out dust that will imbed itself to your wheels if that is a concern. It will come off but it ain't easy.

I used both Hawk Black & Hawk Blue on my 96 GS. Stock up on clay bars if you like your wheels and paint job.

Call Carbotech and get some XP9 or XP10 pads. I drive them on the street and the dust is easy to clean up. Should work OK for AX and shorter tracks. Larry or Matt can recommend something.

If you're considering the Carbotechs I'd even suggest you look at the XP8 or their new AX6 (what used to be Panther I think). I used a set of XP8 on all 4 corners for track and drove them on the street between events. Mainly being lazy and swapping them around to even out the taper.

I AX'd them a couple of times in my 02 Z06. After the first hard stop they come into their own. Most people who rode with me thought the car was brutal. I ran HP+ in my C4 for AX and they worked well but the dust was too corrosive. The XP8 in a C5 work very well and the dust just washes off. If you try them drag your brakes on your way to the start line to get a touch of heat in them.

No kidding you should see my rotors from a few laps around my shop

They do grab very hard cold

I've never used them on the track thouigh

Also incredibly dusty. No need to the clay bar though. It just wipes off.

Looks like I'm going to sit on the HP+ for Saturday. I think I'm having a booster failure so I really shouldn't spend all that money that I don't have on upgrading pads yet. I just need to get the brakes working normally for now. I'm going to replace the booster today, and hopefully that will solve my problems that I had this past weekend.

Waterford isn't too hard on brakes so I'm not worried about the pads for this weekend, but later in the year when we get to Gingerman I'd like to upgrade to the HT10's or DTC70's-the 70's only come in a dual pin "L" pad so I may make that upgrade at the same time.

We have found that the 10's seem to last longer but still have awesome stopping power over the 70's. The 70's seem to stop a bit better but we knocked 50% out in one day at Gingerman. Do you still plan on running the event without lapping on saturday?

We'll see how it goes. If we finish early and the car is running (stopping that is) ok, I might put on some junk tires and run some laps.

Ok well I am weak...VBP had single pin HT10's in stock so I'm getting sets for the front and rear. We'll see how they work, assuming I get my other problems fixed.

Cannot spend any more money on the car this year!!

Might as well give me a paddle because I'm in the same boat!
Maybe some after the event? I think Kelly may even come out for this one.

T and I were talking, you should try to get Kel-Kel to make the trip to G/G later this year. T never gets up for the Saturday event, but doesn't have a choice for the Sundays when we have to check out of the lodging.

I am trying to get her out there. The dog is the variable in this deal.

Booster seems to have done the trick. Now the brakes are so damn touchy I'm gonna have to relearn to drive the car...again!

That and the HT-10's and you may be dangerous! Glad to hear everything has gone well thus far.
