Default Brake caliper anti rattle/squeal clips

Are the ones in the center of the front caliper necessary?

No. Just the ones on each end. By the way if you inspect the edges of the backing plates on your pads you may find a thin ridge running along the edge. This is due to the way the make the backing plates. If you file off the ridge on the trailing edge of the backing plate where it goes into the end of the caliper bracket the pad may slide easier under load.

Good. I was installing my Hawk 70s last night and the center clip was putting quite a bit of load on the pad.

Thanks
