Default Lightweight parts HELP!!!

Hi guys, I am looking for help in finding lightweight parts.

Starters

Brakes

Etc anything else.

Car is 02 ZO6 already 2930 with 3/4 tank of gas, in street legal form. Most basic stuff done but I want to get lighter. Have heard about light weight starters, very light brakes. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can save 5 lbs. with a cheapo carbon/kevlar hood from procarparts1.com, or do a full carbon fiber hood by hand, like another guy on this forum, and save about 23 lbs.

Show brakes only. Wont stop any car worth a darn.

Yes a few ppl tried them on the track. these groups only made a few laps, then pulled back into the pits scard the chit out of them as they did not stop or slow the car even from warm up speeds

I never heard that! All I remember seeing was a mag. article about how they decreased the stopping distance by a lot! Nice to know, even though I never had plans to buy any.

We cornered the owner of the company. He finally admited he PAID for that artical. and He addmitted these brakes are NOT for 3000 lb cars, but more for 12-1500 lbs show cars.

The LS1 starter is already as light as the tilton lightweight units.

Lighter clutch/flywheel is a big savings.

LS2/C6 oil pan, lighter and uses less oil to fill.

Headers w/no cats will also save weight. Ti or Borla exhausts.

Haltech mini alternator if you can find one, saves 15lbs.

ACP has carbon fenders, fascias, trunk lids, hoods, doors, etc.

Pin on the hood, hood hinges and latch hardware weighs over 10lbs.

Wilwood two piece replacement rotors (stock sizes) are around 2 lbs lighter each.

Lightweight battery - (hawker pc680) saves 15-20lbs. It will start and run the car easily.

Default Lightweight parts

[QUOTE=XPC5R;1560903843]The LS1 starter is already as light as the tilton lightweight units. I will look to see what I have.

Lighter clutch/flywheel is a big savings. Already have.

LS2/C6 oil pan, lighter and uses less oil to fill. Already have.

Headers w/no cats will also save weight. Ti or Borla exhausts. Stock Catback with no cat just muffler.
Haltech mini alternator if you can find one, saves 15lbs. Replaced due to failure to charge at idle while cooling.
ACP has carbon fenders, fascias, trunk lids, hoods, doors, etc. Will check into some of these parts.
Pin on the hood, hood hinges and latch hardware weighs over 10lbs. Not sure if this is allowed in SM2.

Wilwood two piece replacement rotors (stock sizes) are around 2 lbs lighter each. Will check into.

Lightweight battery - (hawker pc680) saves 15-20lbs. It will start and run the car easily. Already have.

Thanks for info, still looking to lighten the load.

Titanium rotors are illegal for SCCA SM2 as of this year. FWIW they worked great for autocoss. I'd be concerned about keeping them cool enough for track usage.

Odyessy PC680 battery - 680 Cranking Amps, 15.4 lbs.

Gut the doors. Do this to a spare set if it is a dual purpose car.

Remove the speakers? I recall reading that Bose lightened the speakers
during development and I can not say how mauch gain you might see.

Backlight (rear glass?)

Does anyone make a CF trunk/deck lid?

I see the hood mentioned in that list - but no mention of
a lightweight trunk/deck lid. I don't recall people mentioning it in
threads I've noticed, either.

Is this C4 member missing something about the C5 deck lid, or is
it a component that isn't modified/replaced for weight savings?

I'm not sure if one exists or not but I'm guessing it would probably only save a little weight since there is very little fiberglass compared to glass. I saw he mention the legality of parts in SM2, which takes this mod off the list, regardless of how much it saves.

Racing seats can save weight. Depending on the swap bars you have, those can save you weight. I went from T1 to Pfadt Streets and saved 12.3 lbs. Light weight wheels would be good too (can probably save a little weight going to CCW Classics). Hope that helps.

The OP mentions a Z/O6

This East Coast Corvettes shot of their liner suggests that
the lid and its hardware are fairly substantial.

Yupp, think so, actually there are sooo many places that even the new Z06 could be lighter and not costly either IF they wanted to ...

Rear glass can be replaced by different material and give a huge weight savings.
Seat rails can be made of aluminum or something else, that thing is heavy.....
Seat could be made of CF, ala Porsche GT3 RS
Hood CF
Rear facia and fender CF
All brackets, made of lightweight material, just take off the bracket that holds our coil pack and feel the weight.
Exhaust system in Titanium.
Ceramic brake rotors (check out www.movit.de)
lightweight wheels

I figure our new Z06 could shave off close to 200 pounds easily
and not cost that much more.
they could have an option ala 911 GT3 RS, stripped down to serious racing (not that our stock Z06 is not for racing :-)

Rune

I guess the Blue Devil will benefit from this

Yup Headlights and carpeting will save about 100 lbs. That little link has a lot of good info on what things weight

Lexon windows save a lot or weight too. But Lexon yellows very quickly in sunlight

If I rember correctly the 03 Commerative addition had the C/F hood and that saved 11# or 17#s of the stock C5 hood.

ACP ( Kerry Hitt) at corvette race bodies
http://www.corvetteracebodies.com/corvetteracebod.htm

Has the carbon fiber body parts. Scroll down to C5 World challange for the hoods and Lexon front and rear windows ( non for coupe)

Under the C-6/ZO6 WORLD CHALLENGE RACECAR BODY are some Windtune videos which are cool to watch
