F1 Coverage on Fox stinks
Too many commercials
Too many pop-up promo's for other shows
Am I spoiled by the Speed channel's coverage? Hopefully the coverage on Fox will expose F1 to a new audience but I have my doubts. Oh well on to Silverstone.

I didnt think it was to bad. Least it was on network. I only saw the last 45 minutes or so.
I tell you what is bad is NASCAR coverage on TNT. Man they slaughter that. Im not much of a NASCAR fan but man Speeds pre race show is much better.
Problem is that the average american Joe wont like F1 as its to technical and they dont race close enough. That and they dont loose their minds on the last 10 laps and smash into each other. Plus the only thing that goes 19,000 RPM at a NASCAR event in the drunk hillbilly trying to blow up his Chevy after JR looses a Taladaga race.

You guys are aware that Fox owns Speed Channel as well?
That is why we have to put up with negative, partisan , bigoted jerks like Varsha, Matchett and Hobbs instead of getting proper announcers who can pronounce the names of the tracks and the drivers and show some enthusiasm for good driving. Notice that they are very disparaging of the teams that will not allow them an interview like Ferrari for example. I wouldn't talk with these idiots either...
Nice comments about Lewis Hamilton's race during the Canadian GP and I don't mean the competition, I'm surprised they didn't make the same remark as Fuzzy Zoeller did when Tiger won the masters. These guys have to go, it is insulting to anyone of intelligence.

I'll assume your being sarcastic. They are the best announcers on TV by far.
Yesterday was better, its the same show but at least they did not hack it up like they normally do and showed pre-race,race, and post race.

There were definitely too many commercials toward the end of the race, but the higher quality widescreen image was pretty sweet. I don't think it was HD (720p), but a nice improvement.

Compared to the CBS coverage the past couple of years, I thought Fox did a great job. Honestly, I didn't see near as many pop-ups getting in the way as I did in the previous race.
As far as the commercials coming up towards the end of the race, I don't remember any positions being contested during that portion of the race; pit stops had been completed, and I was basically just waiting for the race to finish.
And don't bother engaging TinTin; I'm surprised to see him associating with us low-life posers that don't do any "real" racing.
On to Silverstone!
Have a good one,
Mike

Actually, that was the one thing that I had a problem with. The race was tape-delayed until 1:00 EDT, but it took me at least a half-hour of digging through the Internet (the Fox websites were useless), other racing forums (still no-go), and finally found it on a hunch by scanning my TV schedule on my DVR.
I expect Silverstone to be tape-delayed as well.
HTH, and have a good one,
Mike

I agree that the pop-ups are annoying but the coverage this time wasn't really any different than what they do on Speed.

I think the F1 guys do a great job.
They have had nothing but good things to say about Hamilton and how amazing his rise has been. As far as Ferrari goes, why in the hell dont they grant the announcers an interview?? I would have a problem with that also. Didnt they just accuse one of the managers of espoinage?? Sounds like Ferrari has the issues, not the crew of announcers.
F1 has to be careful here. The sport is going to get out of touch. Rumor has it that many of the tracks are not going to bring them back for next season because of the expense. When you get to that point the the "expense" or dealing with the promotors out weighs the advantage of having that many people come to your city for a sporting event you have to wonder who has the problem here.
Yes it is the most expensive sport in the world but they have to be careful to not turn off the fan base and the owners of the venues that allow them to put on the specticle.
Just my 2 cents.

Very similar to what happened to CART, after the IRL/CART split, CART kept their sanctioning fees high, events dried up, and the dismal picture of open-wheel racing in the US was set in stone.
Hope this doesn't happen to F1, but only time will tell.
Have a good one,
