How many of you use repro or aftermarket wheels for track tires ???
I'm going to buy a set of tires for track use only (probably Michelin PS2 Cups) on my '05 Z-51 (Bilsteins, Z06 bars, track pads, SS lines, cooling ducts etc.)
Wondering how many of you have mounted your track tires on (heavier) repro wheels, like Z06 Motorsports, Ace, etc.
I know "lighter is better", but the budget won't handle $1700 for tires and another $2500 for light wheels.
Is the weight difference really noticeable ???
Would appreciate any input, THANKS

I have OE concepts black motorsports with Toyo RA 1's for the track.
I got confirmation from the manufacutrer that these wheels would hold up at the track. They ran additional tests to verify it for me. It took a few weeks to get the results.
I am an intermediate HPDE driver. Can't tell the difference in weight.
I went from OEM Z06 wheels and GY F1 Supercar tires to the above setup.
Handling and grip are much better now. I know it's not an apples to apples comparison but it works fine for me.

with all the above posts. I'm using chrome Z06 repros from Corvette Garage, with Toyo RA-1 race tires. I paid $600 for all four including shipping. Never had a single problem.
My opinion is, "Why spend a fortune on wheels for the track, because no one cares how they look, and any decent wheel can take the abuse? Light-weight wheels are for the upper echelons, not for us weekend hobbyists."

I picked-up a set of used OEM's for my Hoosiers and it was a good choice. I was using heavy after-market rims and I never noticed a difference on the track, but there is a BIG difference in hauling them around, on and off the tire rack, and mounting/dismounting.

I have, and use, both OEM and aftermarket. The weight difference is significant - but not relevant to a weekend track warrior....
If you are running for the podium in Time Trail - go for the light wheels....

That said, MattW_VA uses C5Z rear wheels all the way around and reports very little rubbing on his C6... much less with the T1 suspension in place. You should be able to find those for about the same price as the heavy repros...

Yes, I know C5 & C6 have different backspace, but I wasn't aware that there were "confined choises" for repro C6 wheels, they appear to be quite plentiful ???
Who out there has used REPRO (Motorsports, etc) wheels on a C6 on the track ???
THANKS

You're probably looking to run an 18in rear to improve tire choices, too, right?

Toyo RA1s 275/35r18 + 305/35r18 on 18x10+18x11... this is the recommended street/track setup from John@CCW.
Or 18x10.5 C5Z wheels with 305s everywhere?
Or ... why PS2s? Why pay more for 19s?

Aren't C5 Z wheels the wrong offset for a stock bodied C6 ???
Toyo does make an 305x18 RA1 ???
Curious mind(s) want to know .............................

What are you looking at with running repros and Michelin Sport Cups? I don't see much in the sizes for a C6 non-Z. I don't see much in the Pilot Sport PS2s, either.

I am using Factory Reproductions on my C6Z. 12's on the back and 10.5's on the front. Very, very little rubbing on the front. We have put them in my buddy's C6Z51 and they seem to work. The overall quality is very good.
They are heavier than stock wheels. But they are reasonable $$ and at my level, the weight isn't a consideration.
I dealt with Bob at the House of wheels. Very knowledgeable.

275 x 18 on 18x9.5 front
305 x 19 on 19 x 11 rear.
It looks like Cups are available in the same sizes. The rears are pretty expensive but $300 more for a set of (4) tires is not too much to get the right diameter difference and to avoid rubbing.
But I will do some checking on the Toyo's and C5 Z wheels.
THANKS

I currently have PS2s on my Z-51 -
275 x 18 on 18x9.5 front
305 x 19 on 19 x 11 rear.
It looks like Cups are available in the same sizes. The rears are pretty expensive but $300 more for a set of (4) tires is not too much to get the right diameter difference and to avoid rubbing.

www.tirerack.com doesn't list a 275/35r18 for the cups -- I see a 285/30r18, though, and I only see a 305/30r19.
285/30r18 is an inch shorter than the stock 245/40r18. And 305/30r19 is about 7/10ths of an inch shorter than the stock 285/35r19. At those sizes your 6% larger in the rear. Stock Z51 is 4.4%, and Z06 is 4.3%. The Toyo setup suggested by John@CCW is 3.2%.
Oh, PS2s have a 275/35r18, and a 305/30r19, which is a 2.4% difference. If those are working for you, that's a great data point, thanks!
$300/set of tires doesn't take many sets to make up for getting those CCWs. :-)
