Default C4 Autocross folks - Tire Size Question...

1994 C4 Coupe

Want to run 315 rears, 295 fronts. You folks that run 295 fronts, are you using 9.5" or 11" front wheels? If running the 11" wheel, are there any clearance issues? That is one of the reasons I want to run the 295 instead of the 315 on the front, is to avoid clearance issues.

Thanks for any assistance.

I had 285's on the front of mine with 9.5 wheels. I plan in running 11 inch wheels up front with 315's next year.

the 295's on 11's will still rub if you have an aggressive alignment on the car. Ours seem to rub just prior to steering lock. 315's and 295's on 11's both rub the 295's just dont rub as bad. I think the 295's work better on a 11'' wheel rather than a 9.5''. IMO.

It all depends on the offset of the wheel.
I run 315's all the way around & they don't rub.
They are mounted on 17 X 12 CCW's with 8 1/2" offset. I do use a 1/4" spacer on the fronts if I am running an autocross where I would be turning lock to lock. I remove the spacers for road courses.
Car is a 92 with 1.7 degrees of negative camber.

We have a set of 17x11 1/2 ccw's and with the 315's they rub. Probably because we dont use spacers in the front of the car. If we spaced them it could work but I could see possible rubbing on the hood but not so much on the frame. The 92 has a diffrent front suspension than an 86 as well and I would take that into consideration. If your car is 88 and up the above mentioned setup could work good for you. If you a 84-87 I would look into it quite a bit farther before you jump into it. The car feels much better with the 315's if that helps you any. Our source for tires is a T1 runner. So we get 295's and 315's. Budget racing at its best. The 295's will work good you just have to be more patient with them and drive smoother because they don't recover like the 315's do. I have snagged a few overall's with them though.

I have run 285s on 9.5" wheels (56mm sawblade offset) with no rubbing issues. I have also run 315s on 11" ZR1 wheels (36mm ZR1 offset) and have minimal clearance but no major rubbing issues.

My $0.02: get the 11s and run 315s, you'll love the grip. Just be advised that they may stick out a bit. Pics of my car with 315s below:

Here's my 335's on all 4 on 12in wide rims,18f 17r

They rub a little on the locks, my car is at the stock ride height.

Default 275's ?

295's, 315's, and 335's are all great in the right conditions and set-up.

But, There are a lot of "very quick" C4's running 275-40-17's on all four corners, both autocross, and track days
Plus you can rotate tires easy, tires are readily available from several manufacturers, and, no rubbing issues!

Just one racers opinion "why fix what ain't broke?"
