Stupid question: How many similar length cycles (rough guess) would one of the 710 sets have left in them? I'm very interested in one of those sets and could come pick them up.

My guess would be at least 5 hard sessions or a few more if not driving 10/10ths, they do not cord easily. I could meet you part way if you wanted to pickup.

Thanks, Scott

The rubber lasts a long time but the grip really goes away after quite a few sessions. I have some 710s I purchased from Chris Ingle last year that I have been pounding on for a year (HPDEs and Autocross) and they still have rubber left. However, at Watkins Glen this week they didn't have much more grip than my street tires. I have heard that using a tire refresher like Formula V will bring them back enough to get them to wear out.

I use the Formula V treatment before every track day, it definitely does work. I typically apply 3 coats for three days per the directions. Last time out at Infinion, the tires were very sticky and neutral for the first three 20 minute sessions. By the fourth session, I had worn off the treated rubber, the car was slower on average a second a lap and had a grinding understeer in the flat out 4 th gear right hand bend before the carousel. Next time, in order to get deeper rubber penatration, I am going to use four coats for three days. The stuff is economical, but it is somewhat time consuming(you need to descale the tires before treatment) and messy, but it does work and yes I do drive my scrubs to the cords.

Sorry I'm so slow in responding (and you're really going to kill me if you've already sold the Kuhmo's too and get more inquiries as a result of this post )

It was really nice meeting and dealing with you too. We really appreciate the extra time you took in hearing my car woes and your advice/experience on things. And thanks too for letting us learn from you a little bit about what's involved in being a T1 racer. I've been reading some of your other posts too and we wish you the best of luck out there!
