Default FTM sensors for track tires?

I'm putting together a set of track tires with my OEM wheels and R888's. Plan to drive these to HPDE events. My original set of FTM sensors is now on my aftermarket set of street wheels/tires. Should I get another set of sensors for track wheels/tires, or isn't it really necessary when doing HPDEs?

Default yes

My understanding is after a hour or so of your can not receiving sensor info it will go into max 55 mph mode. You can lean your sensor rims next to the car in the pits with correct tires in correct spots and you should be ok 20 minutes at a time. Best way is sensors and a cheap sensor tool.

There are many opions on this issue, here is my .02 I feel that it is a good idea to run sensors. They let you know the tire pressure situation all of the time and if there is a problem, can warn you before a catastrophe. Another safety item. JD

I had a tire start to go down at Pocono in turn one. I barely noticed the difference in the car. Every lap I was losing 1-2 lbs of air. I am sure at some point I would have noticed it in a big way. Maybe a bad way.

I say spend the money and be safer.

I have in all 3 sets of wheels that I have. It will make your tire setup easier, because when the pressures start increasing to the point where car starts to get slippery, note it on the DIC and adjust when you get in.

I've run tires without sensors in my 07 Z06 for more than 1000miles without issues or it going into max 55 mode.

Default No time to look at the DIC on track

When I'm doing hot laps on track, I don't have time to look at what the DIC displays, much less cycle through it to see a different display, ie (front then back tire pressures). Believe me, I tried, and it's much too distracting for me.

TPM sytem has software changes in late 06 model run.Our very early 06 needs the sensors--but many later models donot.

The cost of 4 sensors and tool runs about $550. Junk change in what the overall cost of tracking a car

Default Do I "need" the Bartec tool?

Assuming now I do need the wheel sensors, why would I need this Bartec tool, esp if the person mounting them has one?

The car only knows about one set of sensors at a time. When you change wheels you have to re-train the car.

It depends on when your C6 was made...some do and some do not have the problem. I thought my car did not have the problem until a spirited drive on a off ramp, where even at slow speed the TC came on real hard and was braking the car very unusual. I forgot to recalibrate with my tool. Went home, recalibrate and no issues. Bottom line, it COULD ruin your track day OR it may not. But it would suck to pay $250 for a track day to find out you have the problem, but only in high speed conditions.

This is one of those things were you should do it right, get the sensors and get the tool and be done with it.

exactly. It is really nice even on your cool down lap to check it.
