I love old boats, particularly ones that are immaculate.

Each year my dock serves as a stop on the Antique Boat Poker Run. I snap pictures of the ones that are noteworthy or ones that I want to waste some memory on.

What waterway is your dock on? I'm over 20 years at this point and starting to think about retirement. My XO has done two tours at Auburn and really likes that area of the country. I've sort of bracketed it with tours in southeast Georgia (Kings Bay submarine base) and Memphis TN. I'm looking for an area where I can afford a nice and be able to build that garagemahal I want...

Nice pictures Jody, we used to have a place on Lake Hartwell and they did a antique wooden boat show.

There is a wooden boat show in Georgetown, SC pretty soon also.

Is that last one a Jersey Shore Racer? I saw the boat races at Kent Narrow MD about 15 years ago and those guys are nuts.

The boats are about 15 or 16' with a worked 350 chevy engine. One guy steers and the other is the throttle man.

Brad, I'm on Lake Norman, just north of Charlotte, NC. There are a bunch of GarageMaHals in the area.

We're within ~4-1/2 hours of Roebling Road, < 4 hours to Road Atlanta , < 2 hours of VIR, 1-1/2 hours to CMP and within a stone's throw to the new track they're building in Salisbury. A quite convenient place to live.

Yep, that's what it is. They usually have 7 or 8 of those things, but this year there only a couple.

They are fast and enjoyable to watch.

Yes sir, very fast and highly entertaining.

The one day I saw them race, the water condition were a bit rough. Probably 1/3 of the boats had one of the two racers thrown out of the boat during the race.

Both occupants are "kill switch tethered" and the race goes immediately to red flag.

Great pix Falcon.. thanks...I used to have JS 21" Airtime" an old Jersey Speed Skiff like yours. My skiff was a Bender hull ( Bud Bender is still driving occais. at 91 yrs old) with a 283 chevy, chris craft tranny and a water pump for cruising.. these skiffs are definitely the most challenging motorized vehicles to take to the limit ,I've piloted. Kinda like trying to run Watkins Glen in a T-Bucket roadster.....

I think those things are 5 times the work our cars are! Those older ones are cool but I've always wanted to get a Skater with a pickle fork, stepped hull and a NASTY outboard on it with all the high dollar steering gear!

I think classic wood boats are about the opposite end of the universe from track time in a Corvette. The wife and I went to a boat show at Hessel MI a couple of years ago and it was fabulous. I think the word describing classic wooden boats is elegant. My brother is restoring a 1959 Century Coronado with a dual quad Hemi and it's an enormous job. The way I drive my Z06 on the track probably isn't very elegant but it's a lot a lot easier then building a boat.

The V-12 video looks like Lake Winnepauskee, NH. They have a wood boat show there every summer, and it is alot of fun. I have seen little boats with antique outboards to big cabin crusiers there, all wood. One old speedboat had a Hispano-Suiza (sp?) motor with a blower.

Those Speed Skiffs are so loud, the driver and passenger wear ear plugs.

You guys are right, though, when you talk about the maintenance involved in these wooden boats. The owners (or their paid designee) spend an enormous amount of time restoring and caring for these boats.

This year's show had less participants than usual because of the lower lake levels brought on by the drought we're having here in North Carolina. Still, there were some beauties riding around.

Thanks for the info. Been to 3 of those 4 tracks. Also good to see that they are building a new track in the area. May have to do a scouting trip down that way at somepoint.
