Suspension coming apart...worth replacing Z06 shocks?
Ok I have the front suspension taken apart for the bushings/camber kit.
I have Z06 shocks with an unknown amount of miles. I can push them in by hand without a whole lot of effort.
It never ends...its apart...what is reasonable and a good upgrade?
Anyone by chance know what I should get on a shock dyno? I can take them in and have them tested. They seem pretty easy to move.
I've already spent enough already and shudder to think what the alignment/ride height/corner weighting is going to cost me but since its a part I was thinking of the shocks.
Thanks

I just removed mine and it takes a fair amount of pressure to collapse the shock. I had to use another floor jack to push the control arm up and use heavy wire to hold the shock closed to remove. I could not get enough leverage in the wheel well to do it by hand.
Off the car, I think it takes about 50 lb. or so to push down and compress the shock.
FWIW, my 12,000 mile Z06 shocks are for sale in the C5 section.

I grabbed the bottom of the shock and just lifted, it went up with moderate effort and I was able to remove it with the lower control arm being pushed up with a bottle jack.
I'll take it off completely and take it to work on Monday.

FWIW my old shocks I could push together easily with one hand. The new shocks I needed two hands and putting the shock on the floor then leaning down on it to move it. It sounds like yours are pretty worn.

get some Bilsteins form DRM or LGM. Shocks that don't work are horrible even on a street vehicle that never be on a track.

Safety Car
I had a shock go bad on my Yukon. The oil leaked out. It was terrible. The truck was bouncing and shimming over every little bump. and the bouncing wouldn't stop for like 300 feet after the bump.
I finally got under the truck, saw all the oil stains on the lower control arm. $300 later.. yes, GM autoride shocks are $300. and the truck rode like new again.
Only problem was I got 3 defective autoride shocks from GM, so I had to keep replacing them until I got a good one. There are some electronics in the shock, & appearently I got a bad run.

Z06 shocks
I had 2002 Z06 shocks on my vehicle. I replaced them with GM 2004 Z06 shocks from Gene Culley for about $380. The difference was night and day. Hard to beat for the money.

Normally if they aren't leaking they are OK, but if you're concerned, either replace them with the 04 shocks or the T1 SACHS. You won't go wrong with either.

You can get the Bilstein sports for under 300. They won't wear out as quickly as the stock GM shocks do. GM shocks start getting iffy for me after a year.

I replaced my '03 shocks with '04 shocks.
Used a tip a guy posted on Z06Vette.com ... compress the shock ... use heavy duty zip ties (make a collar top and bottom, then loop ties and tighten) ... works ... then I pre-tied the new ones, slipped in, then cut the ties and removed them ;thumbs:

I also vote for the Bilsteins - you can find them $300 for a full set and they should make a noticable difference over the stock Z06 shocks. I noticed a great deal of added stability at high speed when I replaced my stockers that had 50k on them...
