Default New Fast time at Texas Motorsports Ranch (video coming soon)

Hi Guys,

Here is the video; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y6eP1_sNz3E

We were out to Motorsports ranch testing some new tires in our World challenge car in preparation for the ALMS GT2 effort, and needless to say they were pretty good tires. (1.7 mi Counter Clockwise track)

We ran a time that was better than we have run in any of our cars in the past, including our Trans Am car. The best time for the day was an incredible 1:11.5 with plenty of times within a few tenths.

The car is the World Challenge Corvette C6 in full World Challenge trim but at ALMS GT2 weight. So the weight with the driver is 100 pounds less than what we had to run in WC at the start of the season. The rim width is not ideal for these tires but we wanted to get some data to start this process.

Just to put this in perspective, we did a back to back against our World Challenge tires for a base line, then slapped on the ALMS legal tires and pounded some laps at over 2 G's and cut almost 6 seconds off our base line time with the WC tires. A new sticker set of WC tires would have yielded another second but still, 5 seconds on a 1.7mile track is not chopped liver.

And the 1:11.xx time is about 1.5 seconds faster than our Long Beach Winning Trans Am Corvette time out there. (the TA Car had 700 hp and weighed 100 pounds less)

The "R factor" was very evident also. The "R factor" is my "RIB" pain. my seat is not designed for the 2 g cornering forces so we will have to make sure that the GT2 car has a better design seat.

We are testing some different tires to try for the ALMS GT2 car, and the WC car is a great test bed to do some comparisons.

We plan to make our Tire Choice for the ALMS series in the next two weeks. We want to get ahead of the curve with the Tires to be as competitive as possible in the first race, which will be Sebring in March.

Stay tuned for more info and updates.

And no, I can't divulge what brand we were testing just yet.

Thanks
Lou Gigliotti

Has anyone won on anything other than Michelin's this year in GT2?

Lou,
Was the SWC Corvette "legal" other than the weight? Did you keep the SCCA restrictors in? What did the Riley boys say about your Corvette?
Just curious! I think the SWC cars could be bad *** without restrictors and proper tires!

That answers my question.

Your test sounds great. Can't wait to hear what tire you go with.

What does 2g's in the corners feel like? Can you imagine putting someone in the passenger seat with just a standard DOT seatbelt?

9 Gs in a jet is mostly vertical Gs because even in a turn the force is toward your butt because the jet "Banks" into a turn, (right?).

But 2+ G's in a race car with no banking is all side loads against MY RIBS And my seat was poking into my rib cage.

The car was World Challenge Legal except that the lead was removed to get it down to ALMS weight which is 1225 kg without driver and no fuel. or about 2900 pounds with driver.

Full restrictors in place.

No one from Riley was there, just tire people and LGM Crew. And the tires went back with them when we were finished

Thanks

That is why I have an Ultra-Shield seat. Nice high rib bolsters to help hold my body in place. Kirkeys will do that too.

When ever I sat in a Spark of Racaro seats going through a high speed corner I thought I was going to slide sideways out of the seat.

Awesome times, Lou. You are about 30 seconds faster than my lowly little street tire, 289, automatic, drag the door handles because it leans so much '65 Mustang. How about that! I haven't timed my Vette out there but you are at least 20 seconds faster than that as well. It is impressive to see a different manufacturer's tires can make that big of a difference. Go get 'em in GT2!

I dunno, 2 lateral Gs in an aircraft probably would be a bad thing!!

Wow, Lou, those times are astonishing! How far is that off the overall 1.7 track record?

Sheesh, at those times you'd be lapping me every three laps!!

Man, I can't wait until ALMS starts up next year! Good luck!

Can't wait to see the video of the 1:11.5 lap. Just watch your post "05 season test at MSR http://www.lgmracing.com/ with your first C6. Looked like you were turning close to 1:14 lap times. All I have to say is "DAMM" that's better than 10 seconds faster than my best!

Nice job putting the power down!

True, except for one thing your heart doesnt care 9Gs in an F16 is 9Gs against your heart, 2Gs in an awesome race car is still 2Gs, not trying to brag but Fighter Pilots are Bad *** and the last time I checked were still undefeated! LOL
