InCar-Infineon Sears point Qualifying laps LG World Challenge C6
Hi guys,
VIDEO **
I was asked a few days ago if we had our 05 pole qualifying lap on the in car camera. I found the full sesion so we pulled the two qualifying laps off and we posted them up on youtube.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QhFINl5AwnA
This was the 2005 World Challenge race at Infineon where we got the pole at a 1:39.581 on Toyo DOT tires. This lap time is a record that still stands.
By the way, this was also on our LG Coil Over Package that we now sell to the public
Then we went on and led every lap and won the race.
Enjoy the video.
Thanks
Lou Gigliotti

Thanks guys. It was more fun than I should be allowed to have.
Dave,
get some slicks because they are worth no less than 3 seconds per lap. It is hard to make up 3 seconds if your rules allow them.
At infineon, you have to get up the hill into turn 1 and 2 with as much speed as possible. and also carry speed from turn 8b to the exit of 10. That is sometimes hard to do
good luck next week.

Also I left the WC series at the end of 97 and didn't come back until 04. And for our first race in 04, I put the car on the front row in the maiden voyage at Sebring.

Thanks Lou,
I've watched it about 10 times already. I noticed in 5 (Kink before the carousel) you had just a little lift. You carry SO much speed through 1 and 9 its incredible. That's some fantastic driving, especially with DOT Toyos.
What kind of transmission were you using? What gears? Were you using the clutch?
1:39 is so fast and that's even with the long turn 7.
Well Done!
Thanks again Lou G

In 2005, we still had to use a normal Corvette Transmission, so we used the M6 with a 342diff and never got out of 4th gear. This set up did require the use of the clutch.
The new rules allow a sequential transmission which would have helped plenty.
In turn 5, if I had turned in just a touch later, I might have been able to take it flat. That little bit of early turn in, doesn't let the hill catch you as well, so I could have turned in slightly later.
Turn 1 and 2 up the hill is the big brass ***** turn. Watching the video, I am scolding myself for not going further but I remember the lap and in the car it was dancing all around But keeping the speed all the way up the hill as fast as you can and still make turn 2 is really important.
Turn 9 starts at 8a, where you pick up the throttle BEFORE you can see over the 8a hill. That will get your speed up early so you can approach turn 10 and again, just slow down enough to make it through 10 but pick up the throttle early leaving 10 to carry as much speed into 11.
I also treat turn 11 unlike the normal school approach. I treat it more like an auto X and just get around it as quickly as possible, losing the least amount of time in the corner.
The classic line in 11 starts wide, then late apexes to get the run on to the straight. But the corner is so slow anyway, you won't lose much in exit speed. And the tight line makes up more time in just the distance compared to the classic exit that it has always been faster on our data to run it tight.
Have fun at your next event out there.
Thanks

Lou,
Another thanks, going to Sears Point next weekend, 28/29th with
NASA and if anyone is going to join the fun they should review this
tape as often as possible. Amazing!

Thanks for the additional comments about the line through 11, Lou, that
and the far left entry up the hill at turn 1 are not what they teach as
the school line. I've been doing the turn 1 inside approach for several
years after seeing my first WC race. Not sure I'm willing to try the slow
entry to 11 with a stock LS1 car, takes a lot longer I'm sure to get back
up to speed and not as much grip with street tires. Thanks, again!
