Default quick release gas cap for racing

I'm curious if anyone has changed out the fuel door and gas cap situation on a C4 track car to a quick release cap arrangement for easier filling etc. pictures would be great

Most SCCA and NASA races are 20 minute sprint races, with the notable exception of the NASA 25 hours of Thunder Hill, and some SCCA 3 hour enduros
I don't recommend endurance racing in a car that gets 7 mpg at WOT of 116 oct fuel for 25 hours at clip. even if you had a 36 gallon cell thats still a fill every hour

but check the fuel safe site:
http://www.fuelsafe.com/pdf/PartsandAccessories.pdf

The modern version of a quick fill cap is a "dry break" valve that flows 2 gallons per second.

I had a custom filler door w fasteners,(stock lid is heavy and interfered w NASCAR spoiler) but no dry break valve on my racecar

In this pic you can make out the non-stock lid. If you scroll through the other galleries you can see the sheet metal battery box lid. It looked more or less like that.

The only thing I considered is taking out the "unleaded" nozzle bottle neck.

There are quick connect female ends that can be put on your car, with the male end for dump fuel cans

That tin flap comes out in 5 seconds w a pair of needle nose and a quick, FIRM pull.

Or do you mean the actual filler neck to wider neck conversion?

The C4 tank is already a fuel cell so necks and plates are easy to swap.

what do you mean by "already a fuel cell" is it made by a company that makes racing cells? is the neck easy to remove?

The tank has had an inner liner (bladder) since around 1977(?). You could add foam if you like, the neck unbolts from the tank.

that is interesting. does anyone have any pics of the tank apart or how to do it? also what type of foam should I use as well as how large of pieces to prevent slosh?

Pictures of the '89 OEM filler neck and tank opening. (The light coloured
tray visible in the bottom of the tank is where the fuel filter comes to
rest and serves the purpose of a basic fuel reservoir.)

Flush-mount filler plates and blocks of fuel cell foam are available from
several vendors.

A consideration about foam is that it will interfere with sending unit operation.
However, a determined person might find a way to adapt an aftermarket
floatless sending unit that has no moving parts (the OEM '89 gauge requires
a 0-90 Ohm input from the sending unit.)

A simpler alternative is to resort to using a dipstick for fuel level measurement.

As DREGZ suggests, spend some time browsing catalogs like those available on-line
at Fuel Safe and other vendors for further ideas about how to proceed and what
is available ready-made.

Some ideas regarding fuel slosh were discussed in a few threads a while
ago. This one has input from Vetracr and ZR1_MK and links to other
threads.
