Tear in the boot... fluid all over. Can I just replace the boot or should I start looking for a fresh steering rack?
Where's the best (best = cheapest) place to get one?

If there's fluid in the boot, wouldn't that mean the seal is shot?
I think Turn One has the racks. You can always try Gene Culley. Wally Crawford (WNDPDLR) got one somewhere at a pretty good price.

Rock Auto was out when I needed mine for the C5 a couple months ago. They were on back order and had no real idea when they would arrive. I bought one from a salvage yard and it all worked out well. It was tight and has held up well ever since. During the process, I talked with the folks at Turn One ( I also replaced the PS pump while I was at it) and they will rebuild your old rack for about $200.00. If their rebuild is as good as their PS pumps, this may be the right way to go. You have the inconvenience of having your car tied up to deal with.

I used to work for TRW who made them. The rebuilt ones were better than new because they used bronze bushings on the steering shaft instead of the bare aluminum that the new ones use.
