First Trip to Infineon (Track Video)
This was my first trip to Infineon at Sears Point with my 01Z.
Very technical track and I left bunches of time on the table, but I had an absolute ball.

You look fine to me. Looked like about a 2:04 lap which is fine. What tires and where were all the other cars? Sears Point is a great track, very physical. Line and smoothness are everything, and you looked smooth.
Good luck there,
Good luck there,

The tires were Nitto 555RIIs and I staged first in the grid that particular session.

Not bad at all for a first effort old chap! Good job, no drama.
That being said, you are nowhere near the line so you are correct, you are leaving a pile of time on the table.
Was this a NASA thing? If so , go find Ralph Alexander and tell him that your Canadian friend Steve said he should ride with you and show you the line. and when to shift.
I had the inaugural track record there in T1 , I know the way around. All you need is some coaching, you have the speed for sure. Ralph is the chief instructor at NASA NorCal and has won over 500 pro races. He and I drove the 25 hour together and a whole season of Nasa Enduro, really good guy for sure...

Aha!! I thought so. No, it was a NorCal Shelby Club HPDE. I don't know when I'll get back down there but I'll do a lot more research before I go next time. I found a great instructional video on Laguna Seca before we went there, but I couldn't find anything similar for Infineon. Infineon is technical enough that the "right" line isn't as obvious as some tracks. You don't have any in car videos do you?

I do not have any, but this guy is good:

that is a 1:56 in a street Cayman..
notice how the double apex is actually a single sweeping turn?
an excellent rain lap:

Most of the line things are just getting familiar with where the outside
edge is. Nicest bit you have is up the hill to T2 and the straight entry
until mid-track turn in and power over the hill, but leaving lots of track
out room. Look around for the video posted a month or so ago by Lou
G. of his track record World Challenge pole winning lap from a couple
years ago, it doesn't get any better than that.
Place I'd note the most is the exit of the esses, T8 and the mid-track
exit down the blind slope, that is a place lots spin since they continue
to try and carry more speed and finally don't give themselves enough
track out by pinching off the exit. Helps to pick a visual cue as you
leave the 8a blue and gold berm since you can't see the track ahead,
then unwind the steering knowing that you will end up out at the left
side berm. Also, short shifting to 4th at the beginning of the esses,
since you can't accelerate there anyway allows you to slowly add
throttle as you reach that last apex and you are about top of 3rd at
that point anyway and saves the shift on the off camber, down hill
exit. Fun track!

Tintin and StArrow68,
Thanks for the videos and tips. I can already see a lot of places for improvement. Next time I'll have to do more experimenting.
