Default Change the oil after 1 HPDE weekend?????

I ran 6 sessions a few weeks ago at CMP with NASA. M1 15-50 oil was changed the day before that and has zero street miles in it. Oil temps were between 270*-280* at the track.

I'm going to Roebling this weekend for 2 days and Road Atlanta the following weekend. My plan was to run Roebling and change it before RA.

Change it today or not?

My oil temp is much lower, 230° max and I change it once a year with running a few track events. With your higher oil temp I would run Roebling then change it since it will have seen several days of high temps, which can lead to break down.

If you want to change the oil, change BRANDS! If you just want to know if the Mobil stuff needs to be changed, only analysis will tell you that.

That poll needs a new option. Change it when the DIC says so.

Or better yet, run the events, take a sample and have Blackstone tell you to run more events.

I for one would change the oil as often as you can afford. The oil is fine, but it's a good look at what is in the oil. You can save money in the long run, by screening your oil. We like to use paint filters.

While the DIC is relatively reliable and accurate under normal conditions such as daily driving, it becomes woefully inaccurate under track conditions. It cannot factor in the things that happen under race conditions such as the blow by due to extremely high rpm, the fuel dilution that occurs, and a slew of other variables that break down oil under HPDE/race conditions. Analysis from Blackstone told me to change my oil last season after a few race weekends when the DIC was still reading 80% life left. It's not accurate in these situations.

I agree with Joe here.

When I change my oil I reset the DIC, 100%

after one hard weekend the DIC goes down to 70%

after second weekend down to 32-35% then I change the oil and send a sample to Blackstone and a local lab here in NC

Both labs say the change is about right.

I change my oil every 4-6 track days depending on the track run and track time at the event. The DIC usually reads between 45-50% at this time. OIL IS CHEAP - NEW LSX motors are NOT !!!

Thanks guys. I'll hold off for one more weekend. I'm installing an oil cooler anyway next week so the timing will be perfect.

How does one find a lab that will do an oil analysis?

Aren't you disagreeing with joe? Your data bascially says that the DIC isn't far off at all.

What oil cooler did you decide to go with and where are you putting it?

Hey Johnny - sorry I never replied to that question in the other thread. I bought this one:

http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

I decided to mount it to the condensor. I have it mounted, but not plumbed in yet because I'm waiting on the oil adapter block from LPE. I'm a little concerned that it may actually be too big. And no the bolts are not going through the condensor.

Tom,

Can you post info on those labs? I want to send mine out and see how 282F treated it. How big of a sample do they need--do you just put the sample in an old qt container that only held new oil at one time?

Not really, This what My DIC says. I have seen many others that Read 80 or even 90%. The owner changed the oil and sent to get tested.

tests came back it was time to change the oil.

Maybe I should have said get your oil tested and just watch what YOUR DIC says. Not all will be the same Reading for oil percentage.

I stated tracking my car when there was less then 2500 miles on the Odometer. and that was also two oil changes.

I did two events with 5-w30, then had the oil cooler, accusump combo put on and then 15-w50 from then on.

24,000 miles on the clock with 20 some thousand on the track.

None of my oil samples are digitized but I can get some of the info and type it up

Call or go to there web site, posted above. and Get THEIR sample bottle and mailer. prior to your oil change.

You want to get the sample as it comes out of the crank case.

Do you see any increase in water temps due to those coolers being in the air flow to the radiator?

Thanks for the pics Sperkins. From what I got out of the other thread, that is the only place to put it. Do you have the stock radiator? I have a DeWitts ready to go in as soon as I get a chance. Surely that will add enough cooling to offset oil cooler. Did you look at the B&M oil cooler kits before getting yours?

I'm a little when it comes to this stuff but I change my oil before every event, and the driveline fluids every other event.

analysis from Blackstone labs shows my 92k mile turbo charged 4cylinder is holding up excellent to the abuse so far, and so is the driveline, shifts as good if not better then when it was brand new.

still have the same 15w-50 oil in the vette from when I did pocono on 7/20 but you can bet that will go to blackstone for analysis too.
