Default C4 Wheel Bearings

I have searched the forum and everyone seems to have a different opinion on which wheel bearing are best for track days. I dont have a lot of extra money to spend on the car but can at least a couple people tell me if a Timken bearing from Auto Zone will be ok?

National/ Federal Mogal are the the ones that have held up so har for me. Depending who sells them they are stamped national and very tight to spin when new, another store they looked different and they weren't stamped national and they already felt loose. Have heard about timken's failing. Ac delco's have heard hold up. I think rear taper's are available from somebody on here now.

Take a look at the new tapered bearings that VanSteel is selling. I am now using them and they seem to be holding up well. I tried the Timkens and was lucky if I could get a weekend out of them. Advance Auto always warranteed them, but they just were not safe. I switched back to GM, then to the VanSteel product. No problems after a season-still going strong.

American driveline and clutch in Dayton ohio, $209. Savage has them for 190 but they were not stamped National and didn't want to try them. Tapers are the way to go though but last I checked they didn't have the fronts for C4 yet.

stay away from autozone timken, unless you want to change them after 3 laps.

the best I have found is SFK. they take a beating.

the OEM GM also seem to take a beating, but I will say they look identical to timken. So now I only use SFK.

I havn't tried these new tapered, since my SFK are holding up so well.

I had to replace a front hub on my 87 earlier this year. That hub was a generic white box bearin that I picked up through the shop where I work. I had read about other CF members buying from Rockauto.com. and getting good service and good prices. I checked out their website and found that they have a "generic" bearing, a GM (AC Delco) bearing and a Timken bearing.

From what I had read in other threads, the GM bearing is made by Timken but the Timken bearing sold under its' own brand name is supposed to be better than the GM unit. The GM unit was a higher price on the Rockauto site compared to the brand name Timken.

So I ordered the brand name Timken unit and it came in a box marked "Made in the USA" and the unit was also marked "Made in the USA".

The bearing I received was heavier than the unit that failed and the studs were longer than the one OEM GM hub still on the car and the bearing that failed.

I have only done one track day and 3 autocross events so far with this new hub and it's still tight just like it was when it came out of the box. I would definitely recommend getting the Timken unit from Rockauto.

Just stay away from the stuff at the chain parts stores. These are the white box versions and most likely made in China.

You can find SKF at NAPA. In fact, IIRC, the NAPA branded bearings are SKF.

The only brand I could find online at NAPA was PGB.. or Proformer Bearings. They have the NAPA brand for the rear but I need fronts..

Rear: SKF BR930024 for 84-96 C4's
Front: SKF BR930065 for 91-96 C4's

apparently they do not have them for the fronts on pre-91 C4's
